Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vitor Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, William Wallace! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves thows a body shot but no joy. Wallace swats away the attempt to clinch by Alves. Alves throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Wallace misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Wallace feints and as Alves raises his hands in defense, Wallace changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wallace postures up.
Wallace drops back looking for a leg! Alves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alves manages to kick Wallace off! Wallace jumps back into Alves's guard. Alves is trying to keep Wallace in close.
Wallace drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wallace jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wallace stands and throws Alves's legs to the side, diving into side control. Wallace is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alves has escaped the position, nice work there. Wallace looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Alves tries to buck Wallace off but Wallace is having none of it. Wallace is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alves is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Wallace wants to take a breather but Alves manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Wallace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Alves trying to keep a closed guard but Wallace is proving a slippery customer.
Alves is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wallace is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Wallace advances to half guard. Wallace is thwarting Alves's attempts to control the position. Wallace seems to be looking for submissions.
Wallace looks gassed! Wallace wants to work for an arm triangle but Alves is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Alves slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wallace won't allow Alves to get back to his feet. Alves is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wallace wants to pass the guard but Alves is keeping the position. Wallace is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alves is on top in guard.
Alves is pushing down on Wallace's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wallace is fighting to maintain full guard but Alves has managed to sneak the leg through. Alves prevents Wallace from improving his position. Wallace moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves is stalling in the full guard. Alves could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Wallace throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alves escapes and throws Wallace's legs to the side, diving into side control! Alves lands a few punches from side control. Alves grinds an elbow into Wallace's temple. Wallace struggling a bit here. Alves postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Alves lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Vitor Alves will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown and Wallace counters with a nice double leg into guard. Wallace wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. Wallace throwing strikes from guard but Alves blocks nicely. Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Wallace trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom. Alves wants to sweep but no luck. Wallace thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Wallace is breathing heavily. Alves wants to stand up but Wallace is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wallace preventing the sweep.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Wallace decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Alves tries to get to full guard but Wallace has control of the leg. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wallace is looking for a kimura here.
Alves wants to get back to full guard. Alves works his way to full guard. Good work. Wallace postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wallace trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wallace is looking to work some ground and pound but Alves has wrist control. Wallace stays in close to Alves's body and controls the position. Alves looking to control.
Alves wants to control but Wallace passes easily into half guard.
Wallace moves nicely into side control. Wallace is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Alves is trying to escape and Wallace transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Alves is forced to tap! Nice work there by Wallace! Very nice indeed!
