Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Shurk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shurk is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Achy Breaky Heart. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shawn Shurk was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Shurk! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
It looks like Shawn Shurk has been cut. Cruz lands with a cross. Cruz thows a left - swing and a miss! Shurk throws a right hand that Cruz ducks under and follows up with a left that Cruz also avoids with ease. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shurk. Cruz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Shurk counters with a three punch combo that has Cruz backing up. Cruz nods at Shurk to acknowledge the strikes. Shurk has taken the fight to the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action! Cruz turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Shurk regains half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shurk trying to control but Cruz postures up.
Cruz wants to take a breather but Shurk is having none of it. Shurk keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Cruz is thwarting Shurk's attempts to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shurk actively working from the bottom here. Shurk is refusing to be controlled, as Cruz sits in half guard. Cruz is controlling the pace.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shurk can do anything to dispel that myth. Shurk is staying active underneath Cruz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shurk's head. Shurk has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cruz is working away from the top position though. Cruz prevents Shurk from improving his position. Shurk gets back to full guard.
Cruz wants to control from the top but Shurk keeps moving. Cruz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Cruz trying to control but Shurk is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Cruz wasn't doing enough on the ground. Cruz punishes Shurk's body with a nice straight punch. Cruz throws a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shurk throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz catches Shurk with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Shurk misses with a two punch combination.

and Shurk counters with a nice uppercut. Cruz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Shurk takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Frank Cruz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Shurk fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Shurk fails to land with a series of punches.
Cruz looks to land a left hand but Shurk moved out of range nicely. Cruz dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Cruz. Shurk does a little dance to reset his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A cross from Cruz lands. Cruz keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A slow jab from Cruz misses its intended target. Shurk shoots in and drives through. Cruz sprawls well. Frank Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shawn Shurk. Shurk throws a series of strikes that have Cruz backpedaling.
A shot to the body from Cruz misses and Shurk cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Nice shot lands for Cruz. Shurk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Shurk gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Shurk swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Cruz dominated that round. The cut man is working on Shawn Shurk's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Shurk counters with a one-two to the body. Cruz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cruz wants it to stay on the feet. Shurk swinging wildly here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Frank Cruz is winning the standup battle so far. Cruz lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Shurk is rocked! Cruz has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Shurk is still on wobbly legs! Can Cruz finish him? Cruz fails to land with a series of punches.
Shurk seems to have recovered his senses. Shurk displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cruz throws out the jab. Cruz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cruz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Shurk clinches up against the cage. Shurk dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Shurk tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Cruz's elbow. A head punch on the inside from Shurk fails to land.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Shurk to keep the fight standing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shurk tries to throw a body punch but Cruz avoids it by throwing Shurk back against the cage. Shurk misses with a punch to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz wants to take the fight to the mat but Shurk manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shurk lands a body punch in the clinch. A left hand lands to the body for Shurk.

Shurk lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Shurk is trying to maintain a safe position but Cruz gets an underhook and turns Shurk into the cage. That's four minutes gone in the round. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Shurk. Shurk makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Shurk misses with a punch to the body.

Shurk is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cruz is keeping busy. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cruz blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Shurk lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cruz backwards. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shawn Shurk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Shawn Shurk's cut. That's time! Cruz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Cruz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shurk after a bit of a struggle. Cruz blocks an uppercut.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cruz goes for a takedown attempt but Shurk pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round. Shurk shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cruz eats them both and turns towards Shurk to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Cruz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Shurk doesn't seem bothered though. Shurk throws a right hand that Cruz ducks under and follows up with a left that Cruz also avoids with ease. Shurk works Cruz's body with a nice hook. Cruz throws a jab when Shurk was well out of range. Cruz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cruz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shurk. Cruz throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Shurk's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Shurk duly obliges. Frank Cruz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cruz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Cruz showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shurk.

Cruz is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Cruz scores with a body shot.

Shurk scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Cruz fails to land with a series of punches.
Shurk moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Shurk tries to clinch there but Cruz circles away.
Shurk throws a right and a left that Cruz avoids nicely. Cruz throws a series of punches but Shurk avoids them all with ease.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shurk moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Shurk has managed to clinch.

Shawn Shurk seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far. Shurk is stalling here.
Shurk lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Cruz has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Shurk is trying to keep an underhook but Cruz manages to get the takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shurk makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shurk. Cruz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shurk on the ground. Shurk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cruz defends it easily.
And that's the end of the fight! Shawn Shurk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Shurk has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
