PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wasim Kayani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Breaksiron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kayani kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is E.S. Posthumus - ARISE. Wasim Kayani has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wasim Kayani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard Breaksiron!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kayani does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Kayani rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Breaksiron counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kayani!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Breaksiron avoids the attempt from Kayani to control.
Kayani sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Kayani is trying to maintain the position but Breaksiron is very close to passing his half guard.
Kayani is not content to let Breaksiron control the position.

Breaksiron throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Breaksiron is trying to control. Kayani wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kayani is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Breaksiron is nestled in close to Kayani, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Breaksiron fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Breaksiron cracks Kayani with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kayani tries to lock up and control but Breaksiron gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Breaksiron with shots to the head and body - Kayani looks very uncomfortable down there.
Kayani wants to hold on but Breaksiron pushes him away.
Kayani bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Breaksiron has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Breaksiron had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kayani defends it easily.

Kayani connects with a couple of short punches.

Breaksiron throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kayani uses it to pass to side control.
Kayani tries to advance to mount but Breaksiron denies him.
Breaksiron is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Kayani tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Kayani lands a few punches from side control.
Kayani just content to control the position.
Kayani is looking to take a break and control but Breaksiron is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kayani looks up at the clock and then as Breaksiron takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kayani smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Breaksiron is not content to let Kayani control the position.
Kayani cracks Breaksiron with a big right hand but Breaksiron just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kayani in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Breaksiron gets back to half guard.
Kayani wants to pass to mount but Breaksiron is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Wasim Kayani will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Breaksiron on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Kayani takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Breaksiron looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Breaksiron throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kayani works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kayani pulls Breaksiron in close to his closed guard and prevents Breaksiron from doing any damage or advancing position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Breaksiron uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kayani.

Kayani pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kayani is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
A punch lands to the side of Breaksiron 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Breaksiron tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kayani paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kayani misses with an uppercut. Breaksiron saw that one coming.
Wasim Kayani is winning the standup battle so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Breaksiron shoots in but no luck this time.
Kayani tests Breaksiron's chin there with a solid looking shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wasim Kayani.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kayani, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
