Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamison McGowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clifford Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGowen comes into the arena with Tomoyasu Hotei - Battle Without Honor Or Humanity blaring out of the sound system. Smith has chosen Mohammed's theme as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGowen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Smith tries to hold on but McGowen postures up.
Smith avoids a series of strikes thrown by McGowen.
McGowen prevents Smith from getting the reversal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith tries to hold on but McGowen postures up.
McGowen lands a nice shot to the head.

It looks like Clifford Smith has been cut.
McGowen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McGowen throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
McGowen throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Smith because McGowen loaded up on that one.

Smith is desperately trying to improve his position but McGowen has a good base and remains in mount.

Smith tries to get to full guard but McGowen has control of the leg.

McGowen drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick McGowen off! McGowen jumps back into Smith's guard.
McGowen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McGowen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McGowen prevents Smith from getting back to his feet.
Smith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Smith wants to stand up but McGowen is controlling him.
McGowen trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGowen tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
McGowen wants to clinch.

Smith waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract McGowen.
McGowen blocks a head kick by Smith.
Smith tries to score with a low kick but McGowen moves his leg out of the way.
Smith fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and McGowen has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Smith stuffs the takedown.
Nice straight punches there by McGowen. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of McGowen.

That has opened up Clifford Smith's cut even more.
Clifford Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
McGowen avoids the head kick by Smith.
McGowen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McGowen moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McGowen shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McGowen is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.

Smith throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
The fight stays on the outside here - McGowen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McGowen digs a good body shot into Smith's ribs.
Smith feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to McGowen's calf.
Smith throws a front kick aimed at McGowen's knee but McGowen avoids it well.
Smith connects with a high kick.

It looks like Jamison McGowen has been cut.
McGowen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamison McGowen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith connects with a leg kick. McGowen looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGowen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.

McGowen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from McGowen.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Danga de danga de dang - McGowen scores with a four punch combination!
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smith lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Smith connects with an inside leg kick.
Smith feints and then cracks McGowen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow McGowen down.
McGowen moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
McGowen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but McGowen persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McGowen checks a low kick from Smith.
McGowen shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McGowen is breathing heavily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Smith.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clifford Smith dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Smith throws a front kick that sends McGowen stumbling back into the cage.
McGowen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smith takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith moves away from the strike by McGowen.
McGowen misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming.

McGowen gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smith throwing strikes from guard but McGowen blocks nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! McGowen throws up his legs and catches Smith in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Smith tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by McGowen! That came out of nowhere!
