PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Strife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willians Trautman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strife comes to the cage accompanied by Sure Shot -by- The Beastie Boys. Trautman comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bolt Thrower - No guts, no glory kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Strife!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Willians Trautman!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strife wants to clinch.
John Strife seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trautman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strife swivels and escapes.
Trautman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Strife lands with a nice combination. Trautman backs away looking to recover.

Strife takes the fight into the clinch.
Strife prevents the takedown attempt.
Strife has a couple of punches blocked by Trautman.
Strife throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Trautman blocks it with crossed arms.

Strife's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Strife takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Strife misses with a head kick.
Good leg kick by Strife there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Trautman doesn't manage to clinch there - Strife circles away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Trautman takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Trautman scores a takedown into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Trautman wants to finish this one by submission but Strife is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Trautman.
Trautman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Trautman trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Trautman prevents Strife from getting the reversal.

Strife defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Trautman.

Trautman throwing strikes here but Strife is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Trautman looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Trautman wants to control the pace but Strife is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trautman is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Trautman is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Strife is in real trouble.

Trautman has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Strife turns into Trautman and is now in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willians Trautman dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Trautman shoots in but no luck this time.

Trautman gets a takedown into half guard.
Strife moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Trautman stands and throws Strife's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Strife is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Trautman asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Trautman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Trautman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Trautman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Trautman swings around for an armbar but Strife sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Trautman's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trautman is trying to control the position but Strife postures up.
Strife stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trautman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Trautman has his foot on Strife's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Strife works his way back into a safe position though.

Trautman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Strife defends well.

Strife got a little sloppy there for a moment and Trautman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Strife has managed to get both his arms back between Trautman's legs - danger averted.
Strife has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Strife wants to pass the guard but Trautman is keeping the position.

Strife slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Strife avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Trautman wants to stand up but Strife is controlling him.

Strife wants to control from the top but Trautman keeps moving.

Trautman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Strife defends well.

Trautman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Strife defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strife trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trautman is trying to control the position but Strife postures up.
Trautman keeping moving, preventing Strife from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willians Trautman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Strife's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Strife misses with a series of wild punches.
Strife tries to close the distance and clinch but Trautman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Strife throws a looping overhand right but Trautman ducks down to avoid it.
Sloppy strikes from Strife. Those never looked like landing.
Strife lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Strife on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Strife takes a jab right on the kisser.
Trautman fails to land with a series of punches.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Strife, as that shot connected.

Strife drives through and clinches with Trautman against the cage.
Strife landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Strife tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Strife gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Trautman.

Trautman has Strife pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Strife manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
John Strife has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Willians Trautman.
Strife tries to throw a body punch but Trautman avoids it by throwing Strife back against the cage.
Strife misses with a hook to the ribs.

Trautman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Strife tries to close the distance and clinch up but Trautman swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Strife pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Trautman back to the cage. Strife follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Trautman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Strife misses with a series of wild punches.
Strife tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Trautman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Strife feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Trautmans jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Trautman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Strife is fending him off so far but Trautman persists. Nope, Strife circles away and we're back to standing.
John Strife has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

John Strife is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Trautman misses with a body punch
and Strife counters with a left and a right that stings Trautman.
Strife will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Trautman uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Strife is looking to clinch but Trautman is avoiding it.
John Strife is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Trautman has managed to clinch.
Trautman is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Strife struggles to land a body shot inside as Trautman controls his hands.

Trautman is looking for a triangle but Strife pushes his legs off easily.
