PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sub Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Hong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Antonio Hong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sub Zero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio Hong!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zero rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Hong counter with a right hand.

Hong gets caught flat footed, as Zero shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hong is looking to sweep but instead, Zero has passed into half guard.

Zero is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hong has managed to free his arm - good work.
Zero trying to pass the guard but Hong defending well.
Hong trying to hold on to Zero's head to control him but Zero postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zero not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Zero is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hong defends it well.
Zero wants to advance to full mount but Hong doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Hong controlling the position.
Hong keeping full guard, as Zero tries to pass.
Hong preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Zero working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Zero throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Zero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zero loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zero throwing strikes from guard but Hong blocks nicely.

Zero postures up in Hong's guard and throws a big left but Hong blocks it.
Zero with a flurry of punches that miss.

Hong wants to sweep here but Zero controlling him for the moment.
Zero throwing strikes but missing.
Zero working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Zero pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hong is keeping the position for now.
Zero with a flurry of punches that miss.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hong keeping full guard, as Zero tries to pass.
Hong avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Zero takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hong finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Hong takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hong checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hong ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Some wild striking there from Hong.
Zero throws a hook but Hong blocks it.
Hong stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hong wants it to stay on the feet.
Zero fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Hong checks it well.
Zero fails with a takedown attempt.
Hong avoids the head kick by Zero.

Zero throws a right hand that Hong ducks under and follows up with a left that Hong also avoids with ease.
Zero misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sub Zero is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zero throws a lazy uppercut
and Hong counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hong lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Hong misses with a body shot.
Zero dives in and grabs Hong's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hong pushes down on Zero's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sub Zero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zero on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Hong misses with a head kick.
Hong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zero scores with a head kick. Hong tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Zero.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zero tries to score with a low kick but Hong moves his leg out of the way.
Zero is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Hong throws a leg kick that misses.
Zero misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zero throws a head kick that misses
and Hong connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Zero misses with a hook. Hong ducked under it nicely.
The fighters circling - Zero throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hong scores with the left hand. Zero knows he should have avoided that one.
Zero tries for a takedown but Hong circles away easily
and Hong counters with a stiff right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hong misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Zero goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Zero wants to land a leg kick but Hong is out of range.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hong checks a leg kick.
Hong checks a leg kick nicely.
Zero does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Hong looks to land a left hand but Zero moved out of range nicely.
Zero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hong's waist but Hong gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zero off to one side.

Zero misses with a straight right.
Hong looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hong.
Zero closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hong circles away.
Zero misses with a head kick.
Zero tries for a takedown but Hong circles away easily
and Hong counters with a low kick, right behind Zero 's knee.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hong buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Zero throws a body kick that misses
and Hong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hong lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Hong walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Zero drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Hong swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Zero's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antonio Hong!
