Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rob Riggins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rafael Rua! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Riggins checks a leg kick. Riggins wants to clinch. Rua throws a sloppy head kick and Riggins moves out of range easily. Riggins moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off. Riggins tries to clinch there but Rua circles away.
Rua throws a body kick that misses. Riggins steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rua. Riggins wants to clinch. The fight moves into the clinch position. A nice glancing elbow lands by Riggins. Rua tries for a takedown but Riggins manages to get underhooks.
Rua is looking for a takedown. Riggins has Rua pressed against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Riggins is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Rob Riggins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rafael Rua. Riggins with an attempt at a knee that misses.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Riggins. Riggins keeps control of Rua as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Riggins slowing the pace effectively. Riggins scores with a shot to the side of Rua's head. Rua takes an elbow to the forehead.
It looks like Rafael Rua has been cut. Riggins tries a knee to the head but Rua blocks it.
Rua can't get the takedown.

Riggins lands a nice knee to the body. Rua has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggins lands an elbow inside that Rua shrugs off. Riggins lands a knee to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Riggins with a knee to the head.
Riggins gets through Rua's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Riggins gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Riggins avoiding damage.
Riggins comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Riggins lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Riggins with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Rua letting Riggins take a breather here. Riggins gets underhooks to prevent Rua's takedown attempt.
Rua looks gassed! Rua misses with the head strike.

Riggins creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rua's defenses.

That has opened up Rafael Rua's cut even more. Riggins creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rua's defenses. Knees to the body from Riggins.
Riggins lands a nice knee to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rua wants a takedown.
Riggins lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Rua is rocked! Riggins lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Rua is still on wobbly legs! Can Riggins finish him? Riggins lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Riggins dips a shoulder and cracks Rua with a mighty uppercut! Rua falls back against the cage and Riggins unloads with a barrage of strikes! Rua is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Riggins screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rob Riggins!
