Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Corbin Latrell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Cola! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Latrell with a lazy takedown attempt and Cola counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cola controlling the action here. Latrell pushes Cola off looking to stand but Cola dives back in and keeps control.
Latrell is staying active underneath Cola, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Greg Cola was stalling too much, according to the referee. Cola circles away from the clinch attempt.
Latrell tries to clinch up but Cola circles away and keeps his distance. Cola moves into the clinch successfully.
Latrell gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. This has been an exciting period of action! Latrell is looking to stand up but Cola won't let him. Latrell stands up from Cola's guard - Latrell perhaps looking for a knockout. Cola shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Latrell sprawls well. Latrell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cola gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cola throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Latrell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Latrell clinches up against the cage. Cola jumps guard and drags Latrell to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Cola is looking for a triangle here but Latrell uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Latrell has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Latrell is looking to clinch but Cola is avoiding it.
Latrell tries to clinch but Cola is having none of it. Latrell doesn't manage to clinch there - Cola circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cola lands a head shot. The fight moves into the clinch position. A short right hand to the side of the head by Cola. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Cola as Latrell tries to tie him up. Latrell is trying to break the clinch but Cola has him pressed against the cage. Cola is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Latrell jumps guard but Cola stands there with Latrell around his waist. Latrell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corbin Latrell. That's going to take a lot out of him. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Latrell drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cola gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Latrell blocks a body shot from Cola. Latrell tries to circle away but Cola has him pinned against the cage. Cola looking to slow down the pace here. Latrell has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cola regains guard immediately.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cola is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Latrell wanted to stand there but Cola had control of the position. Cola trying to keep a closed guard but Latrell is proving a slippery customer.
Latrell gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Latrell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Latrell lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Latrell stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Cola to get to his feet. Latrell moves in looking to clinch but Cola pushes him off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cola drives through with a takedown into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Latrell wants to stand up but Cola is controlling him. Latrell is breathing heavily. Latrell wants to get back to his feet but Cola passes into half guard.
Latrell has one foot on Cola's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Corbin Latrell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cola closes the distance and clinches up with Latrell, looking for a takedown. Cola pushes Latrell against the cage but Latrell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Latrell tries for a takedown but Cola sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Cola moves into the clinch successfully.
Latrell drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Cola wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Corbin Latrell will probably get the nod. That's time! Latrell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Cola gets a double leg takedown into Latrell's guard. Latrell wants to get back to his feet but Cola is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Cola pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Latrell is keeping the position for now. Latrell keeping moving, preventing Cola from controlling successfully. Latrell wriggles free and stands up. Cola lands a right hook to the body.
Cola circles away from the clinch attempt and Cola counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Latrell is looking to land body kicks. Latrell darts in trying to clinch and Cola counters with a good low kick that Latrell was not able to check. Cola closes the distance and pushes Latrell back into the cage. Latrell is trying to trip Cola. He has hold of a leg but Cola is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Latrell persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Latrell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Latrell is looking to stand up but Cola won't let him. Latrell gets to his feet - Cola follows without any prompting. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cola closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Latrell's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Latrell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cola accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cola tries to stand but Latrell is controlling from the bottom. Cola really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Latrell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cola passes Latrell's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Latrell is looking to escape. Cola controlling the pace. Cola trying to control from half guard but Latrell is working away. Latrell manages to escape and get back to his feet! Latrell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Cola has closed the distance and engaged Latrell in a clinch.
Latrell misses with an elbow over the top. Cola gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Latrell.
Latrell decides to pull guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cola slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Corbin Latrell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Cola is standing up over Latrell. Latrell looks to escape but Cola dives into side control.
Latrell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Latrell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cola to score an easy takedown into full guard. Cola trying to control but Latrell is working from the bottom. Cola throws a big right hand that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Latrell wants to stand up but Cola is controlling him. Cola postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Latrell keeping moving, preventing Cola from controlling successfully. Cola works over Latrell with some ground and pound from guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Cola missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Cola trying to control the position from guard on top but Latrell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Latrell wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cola manages to pass to side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Greg Cola showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Latrell throws a wild combination but nothing lands. A head kick by Latrell misses and Cola counters with an inside leg kick. Latrell wants to clinch up but Cola keeps it at a distance. Cola with a lazy takedown attempt and Latrell counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Latrell. Cola looking for a sweep. Not yet Cola, not yet. Cola has control of Latrell's left arm, preventing Latrell from doing any damage. Latrell gets to his feet. Cola looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cola ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Cola shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Latrell pinned against the cage. Latrell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cola just misses with a punch to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Latrell tries to clinch there but Cola circles away.
Cola fails with a takedown attempt. Corbin Latrell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greg Cola. Cola decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Cola wants to pass to mount but Latrell is defending the position. Latrell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Latrell is looking to escape. Cola working over Latrell with some ground and pound. Latrell looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Cola stops Latrell from getting back to his feet.
Latrell won't allow Cola to pass to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cola wants to stand up but Latrell has a hold of him and won't allow it. Cola scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Latrell is trying to stand up here but Cola is controlling him well. Cola passes to side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A lull in the action here. Cola advances nicely into full mount. Latrell in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Cola tries to control but Latrell wriggling away. Latrell bucks up and throws Cola to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Latrell tries to close the distance and clinch but Cola swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Latrell throws a combination that misses and Cola counters with a nice double leg into guard. Cola decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Latrell, up you get! Cola closes the distance and lands a one-two. Cola closes the distance and clinches up with Latrell, looking for a takedown. Cola pushes Latrell against the cage but Latrell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Latrell moves into the clinch successfully.
Cola breaks from the clinch.
Latrell keeps the fight on the outside. This has been an exciting period of action! Cola avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cola tries for a takedown but Latrell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Latrell tries to clinch up but Cola circles away and keeps his distance. Latrell throws a leg kick and Cola counters with a leg kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cola shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Latrell but Latrell pushes him off and we're back to square one. Cola gets caught flat footed, as Latrell shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Latrell stands and steps away. Cola gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Latrell looks to clinch and Cola counters with a low kick, right behind Latrell 's knee. Cola looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Latrell is fending him off so far but Cola persists. Nope, Latrell circles away and we're back to standing. Latrell darts in and clinches Cola up against the cage. Latrell drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cola pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cola shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Latrell defends it nicely. Corbin Latrell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The fight stays on the outside here - Latrell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Greg Cola. I think Cola has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
