PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Bisping (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerwazy Obuch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerwazy Obuch told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Bisping!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gerwazy Obuch!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Obuch drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bisping is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Obuch sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Obuch passes Bisping's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bisping is trying to stand back up but Obuch is controlling him
Obuch is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Bisping!

Bisping wants to control but Obuch is having none of it.

Obuch is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Bisping to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bisping shrugs it off.
Bisping is bucking up trying to escape but Obuch cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Obuch cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Bisping keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Obuch cracks Bisping with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bisping tries to hold on but Obuch pushes him away.
Obuch with the ground and pound from mount.
Bisping is working to get back to half guard.
Obuch controlling the pace for now.
Obuch lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Obuch goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Bisping is on top in guard.

Obuch keeping moving, preventing Bisping from controlling successfully.
Obuch wants to sweep but no luck.

Bisping avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Obuch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Obuch winds up and cracks Bisping with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Well, if Obuch is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Bisping is looking for a sweep. Obuch is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Obuch perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Let's hope that Obuch has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Obuch drops an elbow to the side of Bisping's head.
Obuch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gerwazy Obuch wasn't active enough on the ground.
Bisping thumps Obuch with a low kick.
Bisping keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Bisping is looking to clinch.

Obuch changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bisping looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Obuch grinds an elbow into Bisping's temple.
Bisping on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bisping tries to get out of the position.
Obuch is staying tight to Bisping's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Obuch lands a few punches from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerwazy Obuch dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bisping will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bisping tries a head kick but it misses.
Bisping lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Obuch circles away quickly and effectively.
Bisping fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bisping scores with a nice body kick.

Bisping feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Obuch is looking for a triangle but Bisping pushes his legs off easily.
Gerwazy Obuch has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bisping wants to get up but he can't break Obuch's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Obuch is on top in guard.
Obuch won't allow Bisping to get back to his feet.
Obuch wants to control from the top but Bisping keeps moving.

Obuch is pushing down on Bisping's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bisping is fighting to maintain full guard but Obuch has managed to sneak the leg through.

Obuch seems to be working for a kimura but Bisping defends the submission attempt.

Bisping has hold of Obuch's hands but Obuch slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Obuch is thwarting Bisping's attempts to control the position.
Obuch landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Bisping is looking to control Obuch's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bisping avoid being mounted?

Obuch is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bisping doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Obuch.
Obuch lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Bisping wants to improve his position but Obuch is controlling well.
Obuch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Obuch passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bisping!

Bisping tries to reverse the position but Obuch maintains control.
Obuch has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Obuch is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bisping can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Obuch has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gerwazy Obuch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bisping avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Obuch shoots in looking for a takedown but Bisping manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Obuch's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Obuch shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bisping pinned against the cage. Bisping gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Obuch throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Obuch creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Obuch jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bisping manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Obuch remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
