Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Tenorio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jaime Carvalho! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carvalho shoots for a takedown but Tenorio saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Tenorio tries to close the distance and clinch but Carvalho swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. A head kick misses from Tenorio. Carvalho shoots in looking for a takedown but Tenorio manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Carvalho's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Tenorio fails with the takedown. Carvalho shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Tenorio wants to get back to his feet.
Carvalho wants to control the pace but Tenorio is squirming around nicely. Tenorio really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Carvalho looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carvalho lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Tenorio is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Tenorio is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carvalho is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Tenorio in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carvalho breaks from Tenorio's wrist control and lands an elbow. Tenorio is squirming around, avoiding Carvalho's attempts to control the action. Tenorio is trying to escape the mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carvalho is working for a guillotine from mount but Tenorio frees his head quite easily.
Carvalho lands a heavy elbow. Carvalho controlling from mount. Tenorio has given up his back here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carvalho patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carvalho has managed to slip his arm under Tenorio's chin. This could be all over... yep, Tenorio is tapping out! Submission win for Carvalho.
