Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mister Chicletinho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barry Badridge! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chicletinho looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Chicletinho has gone for a leg lock! Badridge slips out almost immediately though and dives into Chicletinho's guard. Chicletinho had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Badridge defends it easily. Chicletinho throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Badridge escapes and throws Chicletinho's legs to the side, diving into side control! Chicletinho tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Badridge wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Badridge stands up and we're back to a striking position. Chicletinho fails with a takedown attempt. Barry Badridge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badridge doesn't manage to clinch there - Chicletinho circles away.
Badridge moves in looking to clinch but Chicletinho pushes him off. Badridge throws a series of punches but Chicletinho moves out of range. Badridge fails with an attempt to clinch.
Chicletinho shoots in for a double leg but Badridge sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Chicletinho fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mister Chicletinho. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chicletinho fails with a takedown attempt. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Chicletinho is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Badridge tries to close the distance and clinch but Chicletinho swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Badridge keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Badridge looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Badridge looks to clinch and Chicletinho counters with a nice double leg into guard. Chicletinho drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Badridge manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chicletinho has Badridge in his guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Badridge slips nicely into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chicletinho actively working from the bottom here. Badridge is taking a breather. Chicletinho says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Badridge's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Chicletinho slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Chicletinho is working an open guard so Badridge takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Badridge is looking to clinch.

Badridge lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Chicletinho letting Badridge take a breather here. Chicletinho is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Badridge to keep the fight standing. Badridge stalling against the cage.

Badridge instigates a clinch. Chicletinho takes an elbow to the forehead. Badridge misses with a short punch on the inside. Badridge comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. A short body shot lands from Badridge as the two fighters clinch.

It looks like Mister Chicletinho has been cut. Badridge throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Chicletinhos head. Badridge gets through Chicletinho's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Chicletinho letting Badridge take a breather here. Chicletinho jumps guard but Badridge stands there with Chicletinho around his waist. Chicletinho gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Chicletinho pulls guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Chicletinho looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Badridge is pushing down on Chicletinho's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chicletinho is fighting to maintain full guard but Badridge has managed to sneak the leg through. Badridge tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Chicletinho. Badridge is looking to advance position but Chicletinho won't allow it. Still in half guard, Badridge seems content to control. Badridge wants to stand up but Chicletinho has a hold of him and won't allow it. Chicletinho looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Badridge with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Barry Badridge hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Badridge tries to clinch up but Chicletinho circles away and keeps his distance. Badridge wants to clinch up but Chicletinho keeps it at a distance. Chicletinho will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mister Chicletinho is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Chicletinho keeps the fight on the outside. Badridge fails in his attempt to clinch.

Badridge takes the fight into the clinch. Badridge lands a right hand that snaps the head of Chicletinho backwards. Badridge is stalling here.
Badridge scores with a shoulder strike. Badridge lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Chicletinho jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Badridge walks away with a smile on his face. Chicletinho gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mister Chicletinho. That's going to take a lot out of him. Badridge tries to clinch but fails miserably and Chicletinho counters with a shoot takedown. Badridge fights it but they end up in guard. Badridge is pulling down on Chicletinho's head. It's preventing any offense from Chicletinho, at least for the moment. Badridge is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Mister Chicletinho overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Chicletinho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Badridge swivels though and keeps the full guard. Badridge has control of Chicletinho's left arm, preventing Chicletinho from doing any damage. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Chicletinho drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Badridge dives on top into guard. Badridge pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chicletinho is keeping the position for now. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Badridge is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Chicletinho tries to bench press Badridge off him but Badridge keeps the position. Badridge in side control, just content to control the action for now. Badridge moves into full mount! Badridge stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

A decent looking cross lands there for Badridge. Barry Badridge is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Badridge tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Chicletinho manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Chicletinho takes one on the button. Chicletinho circles away from the clinch attempt and Chicletinho decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Badridge's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Chicletinho postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Badridge is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Chicletinho, into his guard. Badridge's corner is telling him to maintain position. Chicletinho working for submissions but it's allowed Badridge to get to half guard.
Badridge has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Chicletinho defend it? Badridge steps over the head and cranks it - Chicletinho is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Badridge!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Barry Badridge! After the fight, Barry Badridge was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
