PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohamed Bashir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sven Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sven Knight was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mohamed Bashir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sven Knight!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight misses with a double jab

and Bashir counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Knight's guard now.
Knight is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Knight has control of Bashir's left arm, preventing Bashir from doing any damage.
Bashir stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Knight swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bashir is working hard here to advance position.

Knight might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bashir kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Knight is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Knight won't allow Bashir to pass to mount.

Bashir is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Knight makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Knight.

Bashir got a little sloppy there for a moment and Knight has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bashir has managed to get both his arms back between Knight's legs - danger averted.
Bashir postures up in Knight's guard and throws a big left but Knight blocks it.

Bashir is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Knight has managed to free his arm - good work.

Bashir is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Knight sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Knight manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bashir is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bashir looking for a submission but Knight manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Knight has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Bashir pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Knight is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Knight manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Knight is trying to control. Bashir wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Bashir keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Knight wants to control but Bashir is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Knight is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Knight seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Bashir has recovered full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mohamed Bashir will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Knight shoots in but Bashir avoids the takedown attempt easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Knight throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bashir works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Knight trying to control the position from guard on top but Bashir is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sven Knight was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Knight swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bashir blocks a jab.
Bashir shoots for a double leg takedown but Knight sprawls well. He's pushed Bashir's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bashir uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Knight.

Bashir closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Knight did well to prevent Bashir getting side control.

Bashir is looking for submissions but instead, Knight has regained full guard.

Knight throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Bashir with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mohamed Bashir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Knight tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bashir trying to move into half guard but instead Knight has managed to sweep!
Knight wants to pass the guard but Bashir is keeping the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bashir is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Knight fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bashir avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sven Knight showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Knight fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mohamed Bashir is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A lazy left from Knight finds it's target.
Bashir shoots for a double leg takedown but Knight sprawls well. He's pushed Bashir's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bashir is looking to improve his position but Knight isn't that keen on the idea.

Knight thowing shots but they're missing.
Knight takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Knight trying to control but Bashir is having none of it.
Knight breaks from Bashir's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Knight misses with a head shot.
Knight tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Knight looking to control but Bashir is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sven Knight comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Knight has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
