PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johonny Crash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erwin Tulfo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Erwin Tulfo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johonny Crash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Erwin Tulfo!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tulfo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Crash fails to land the takedown.
Tulfo connects with a solid leg kick.
Crash shoots in but no luck this time.
Crash throws the kick towards the body but Tulfo avoids it.

Crash fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tulfo to the ground. Crash is now in Tulfo's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tulfo is on top in guard.
Tulfo trying to control the position from guard on top but Crash is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Erwin Tulfo.
A lazy body kick from Crash
and Tulfo counters with a left and a right that stings Crash.
No luck for Crash with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johonny Crash. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crash shoots in looking for a takedown. Tulfo tries to sprawl out of it but Crash keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Tulfo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Crash tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Erwin Tulfo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
No joy there for Tulfo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Tulfo darts in and clinches Crash up against the ropes.

Crash looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tulfo is fending him off so far but Crash persists. Nope, Tulfo circles away and we're back to standing.

and Tulfo counters with a straight right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Crash swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Crash takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Tulfo slips under a jab from Crash.
Tulfo scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Crash doesn't seem bothered though.
No luck for Crash with that takedown attempt.
Tulfo digs a good body shot into Crash's ribs.
Tulfo fails to land with a series of punches.
Crash looks to throw a body kick
and Tulfo counters with a straight right hand.
Tulfo wants to clinch.
Tulfo misses with a double jab.
Tulfo scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Tulfo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Tulfo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Crash uses from the top position.

Tulfo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Crash is trying to break free.
Crash wants to break free but Tulfo has control.
Crash is trying to push Tulfo away but Tulfo has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Tulfo takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Tulfo manages to pull guard.
Tulfo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Tulfo kicks Crash off and gets to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Crash.
Crash fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Tulfo.
Crash falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tulfo counters with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erwin Tulfo dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Tulfo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tulfo has Crash pulled in close to control his posture.

Crash is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tulfo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tulfo has escaped and now he's on top!
Tulfo postures up in Crash's guard and throws a big left but Crash blocks it.
Tulfo stands and throws Crash's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tulfo tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Crash sneaks back into half guard.
Crash tries to get to full guard but Tulfo has control of the leg.
Tulfo thows a huge punch but Crash dodges it nicely.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Tulfo is just content to waste time from the top position. Crash takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Crash wants to sweep here but Tulfo controlling him for the moment.

Crash looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tulfo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crash swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Crash is defended easily by Tulfo.

Crash misses with an attempted mid kick.
Crash looks to land a body kick but Tulfo moved away.
Crash fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Crash on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Erwin Tulfo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Crash.

Tulfo stalks Crash and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Crash's face. Crash staggers backwards, shaken.

Crash takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Crash won't allow Tulfo to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tulfo is on top in guard.

Crash isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tulfo stacks Crash on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tulfo!
Crash tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tulfo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Crash's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Tulfo gets to mount! Crash was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Crash keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Tulfo lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Crash hang on?
Crash is squirming around, avoiding Tulfo's attempts to control the action.
Tulfo postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Crash looks a forlorn figure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Erwin Tulfo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Crunch! Tulfo slams his shin into Crash's torso.
Crash looks for a takedown but Tulfo sprawls well.
Crash drops his hands momentarily and Tulfo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tulfo misses with a head kick.
Crash throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Crash swats away the attempt to clinch by Tulfo.
Tulfo works over Crash's head and body with a nice combination.
Crash looks for a takedown but Tulfo sprawls well.
Crash misses with a leg kick
and Tulfo makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Crash misses with an uppercut
and Tulfo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Tulfo avoids the head kick by Crash.
Tulfo lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Tulfo.
Crash takes a jab right on the kisser.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Crash pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Crash takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Crash throws a head kick but Tulfo moves out of range.

and Tulfo counters with a thumping low kick.
Tulfo lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Tulfo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Crash backs up against the ropes.

Tulfo is stalling here. Crash is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Tulfo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Crash has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Crash is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Crash wants to free his trapped foot but Tulfo is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Tulfo regains full guard. Nicely done.

Tulfo has his foot on Crash's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crash works his way back into a safe position though.
Tulfo wants to control the position but Crash says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Tulfo is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Crash is pressing down on Tulfo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tulfo is holding on for now.

Crash looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Crash stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tulfo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Erwin Tulfo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tulfo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
