Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between TJ Welsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Watermelon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Welsh's entrance music is Lets Have A War. A fine choice. The key to victory for TJ Welsh has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, TJ Welsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Watermelon!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Welsh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Watermelon is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Welsh pulls his head out easily.
Welsh wants to free his trapped foot but Watermelon is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Watermelon is staying active underneath Welsh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Watermelon is looking for a sweep. Welsh is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Welsh has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Watermelon is squirming around, avoiding Welsh's attempts to control the action.
Watermelon stops Welsh from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Welsh swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Watermelon is now in Welsh's guard. A big mistake from Welsh there, giving up the dominant position!

Watermelon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. TJ Welsh wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Welsh throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Watermelon was covering up waiting for the punch and Welsh finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Welsh throws an elbow that misses. Watermelon uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Welsh's guard. Nice move by Watermelon!

Welsh wants to get back to his feet but Watermelon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Welsh manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Watermelon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Welsh moves away.

Welsh gets a takedown into half guard.
Watermelon is refusing to be controlled, as Welsh sits in half guard.
Watermelon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Welsh's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Welsh's back!

Watermelon is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Welsh knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Welsh for a finish.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Welsh just trying to survive but Watermelon is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Watermelon has the hooks in. Welsh is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Watermelon has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Welsh has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Watermelon is hanging on to Welsh's back as he tries to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that TJ Welsh will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Welsh is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Watermelon is just riding it out for now. Welsh eventually gives up the hold.
Watermelon won't allow Welsh to pass to mount.
TJ Welsh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Watermelon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Welsh is working away from the top position though.
Welsh works his foot free and advances to mount.
Welsh can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Watermelon is looking to escape.

Welsh wants to stand but Watermelon is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Watermelon bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Watermelon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Welsh shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Watermelon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Welsh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Watermelon on the ground.

Welsh drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Watermelon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Welsh has Watermelon in his guard.

TJ Welsh dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Watermelon shoots in looking for a takedown. Welsh tries to sprawl out of it but Watermelon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Welsh manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Welsh tries to close the distance and clinch but Watermelon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Welsh closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Watermelon to the mat! Watermelon manages to get full guard.
Welsh is looking to work some ground and pound but Watermelon has wrist control.

Watermelon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Welsh as he jumps to the side.

Welsh closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Watermelon did well to prevent Welsh getting side control.

Well Welsh has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

TJ Welsh tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
