16 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Stevie Reyes! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Salamador throws a looping overhand right but Reyes ducks down to avoid it. Reyes fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Reyes bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Salamador shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reyes but Reyes pushes him off and we're back to square one. Reyes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Salamador. Reyes slips under a jab. Reyes scores with a nice right hand.
Reyes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jack Salamador seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Salamador throws a sloppy head kick and Reyes moves out of range easily. Salamador walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Reyes misses with a wild combination.

Reyes fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Salamador gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Reyes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Salamador circles away quickly and effectively. Salamador moves out of range as Reyes strikes. A big left from Salamador misses. Reyes connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Salamador's hands. Reyes scores with a nice head shot. Salamador defending well as Reyes loads up on a big left hand. Reyes did well to prevent Salamador getting side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Reyes trying to control but Salamador postures up.
Salamador is keen to just control but Reyes is a slippery customer. Reyes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Well, if Salamador is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Reyes tries to get to full guard but Salamador has control of the leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Reyes counters with a stiff right hand. Reyes might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Reyes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Salamador doesn't seem bothered though. Salamador avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Reyes throws a shot from downtown. Salamador throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Salamador throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Salamador avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stevie Reyes seems to be getting the better of the standup. Reyes slips under a jab. Salamador manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Reyes on his heels. He'll look to pass Reyes's guard now, I'm sure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Salamador trying to control the position from guard on top but Reyes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Salamador is fighting to break Reyes's control of his arms but Reyes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Salamador is in close to Reyes's body, working some short punches and elbows. Reyes wants to stand and escape but Salamador is having none of it. Salamador sitting in guard, not really doing much. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Salamador throws out a loose jab but Reyes uses good head movement to avoid it.

That could be painful for both fighters. Salamador moves to clinch but Reyes breaks away and Reyes counters with a stiff right hand. Salamador shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reyes throws a right and a left that both miss. Salamador fails with the takedown and Reyes cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Reyes takes a swing at Salamador's ribcage but misses. Salamador has his takedown stuffed and Reyes counters with a lovely shot to the body. Reyes lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Salamador shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reyes pinned against the cage. Reyes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Salamador looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A head kick misses from Salamador. Reyes fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Salamador looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Reyes wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Reyes blocks a head kick by Salamador.

Reyes scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Reyes misses with a series of wild punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Salamador in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Reyes is trying to control Salamador's posture but Salamador avoids it. Reyes is looking to regain half guard here but Salamador keeps moving and retains side control. Reyes struggling a bit here. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Reyes tries to get back to half guard but can't. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reyes can do anything to dispel that myth. Reyes on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
