PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Calvancante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernarnd Naylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bernarnd Naylor told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mauricio Calvancante!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bernarnd Naylor!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calvancante gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Naylor counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Calvancante shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Naylor counters with a single leg into guard. Calvancante didn't expect that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Naylor wants to control from the top but Calvancante keeps moving.

Calvancante looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Calvancante is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Naylor defends well.
Naylor looking to sit in guard and control but Calvancante gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Calvancante is pushing down on Naylor's leg trying to pass to half guard. Naylor is fighting to maintain full guard but Calvancante has managed to sneak the leg through.
Calvancante wants to lay and pray for a moment but Naylor keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, if Calvancante is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Calvancante has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Naylor is looking to control Calvancante's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Naylor avoid being mounted?
Calvancante uses his free foot to push down on Naylor's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Naylor.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calvancante is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Naylor can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Calvancante wants to control the pace but Naylor is squirming around nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Naylor is trying to escape the mount but Calvancante keeps good control and instead manages to take Naylor's back.

Calvancante is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Naylor is tapping out! This one is all over!
