PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pj Griffiths (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Samuelsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Samuelsson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Pretty Fly. Christian Samuelsson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Christian Samuelsson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffiths stuffs the takedown.

Samuelsson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Samuelsson is looking for a kimura but Griffiths is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Samuelsson to get the leverage.

It looks like Samuelsson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pj Griffiths.

and Samuelsson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Christian Samuelsson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Samuelsson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Griffiths throws a sloppy head kick and Samuelsson moves out of range easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Griffiths enables Samuelsson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Griffiths manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Griffiths wants to stand up but Samuelsson is controlling him.
Samuelsson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Samuelsson is looking to advance position but Griffiths has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Samuelsson tries to lock up and control but Griffiths gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Samuelsson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Griffiths avoids the attempt from Samuelsson to control.

Samuelsson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Pj Griffiths wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Christian Samuelsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A head kick by Griffiths misses

and Samuelsson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Griffiths won't be happy with that.

Griffiths is not content to let Samuelsson control the position.
Griffiths is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Samuelsson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Griffiths has escaped the position, nice work there.

Samuelsson is trying to get an arm triangle but Griffiths is defending well.

Samuelsson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Samuelsson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Christian Samuelsson has got the better of the ground game so far.
The ground and pound from Samuelsson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Samuelsson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The strikes coming from Samuelsson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Christian Samuelsson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Samuelsson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
