The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Mathews's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jones wants to control from the top but Mathews keeps moving.
Jones drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mathews manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jones has Mathews in his guard.
Jones has Mathews pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones working for a triangle but Mathews defends it easily.

Mathews knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mathews is sitting in close to Jones's body. Jones has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Mathews is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Mathews is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Jones.
