PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Koji Okano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hachiro Matsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Okano kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Aalto - Resolution. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Koji Okano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hachiro Matsui!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okano looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Okano does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Okano will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Okano moves away from the strike by Matsui.
Okano misses with a low kick.
Matsui scores with a hook to the body. Okano takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Okano throws a half hearted mid kick.

Matsui has Okano up against the cage in a clinch.
Okano lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Okano misses with the head strike.
Okano lands a knee to the head.
Okano tries to land a knee to the head but Matsui blocks with his arms.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Matsui.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Okano.
A shot in the inside from Matsui.
A head punch on the inside from Matsui fails to land.
Okano lands a hook that snaps the head of Matsui backwards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Okano blocks an uppercut.
Okano doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Okano misses with some punches.
Matsui swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Matsui tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Matsui misses with some punches.
Okano throws a knee to the head but misses.
Okano misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Matsui prevents a body shot from Okano.
Okano misses with a hook from the clinch.

Matsui has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Okano uses from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Okano wants to get up but he can't break Matsui's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Matsui escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Okano gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Matsui is looking for a triangle but Okano pushes his legs off easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Okano wants to stand but Matsui has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Matsui is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Okano has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Matsui looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Matsui is on top in guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Matsui drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Okano manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Matsui has Okano in his guard.
Okano wants to get up but he can't break Matsui's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Matsui working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Okano doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Okano manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Okano stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Matsui checks a leg kick.
Matsui stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Okano takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Matsui throws a half hearted mid kick.
Matsui scores with a jab. Okano acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Okano throws a low kick, looking for Matsui's leg but Matsui calmly moves out of range.

Matsui's jab looks to have found its range, popping Okano under the eye.
A bone on bone clash there as Matsui blocks the leg kick.
Good exchange - Matsui coming out on top.

Matsui clinches with his opponent.
A short body shot lands from Matsui as the two fighters clinch.

Matsui ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Matsui no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matsui is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Okano knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matsui on the ground.
Okano wants to stand but Matsui is controlling his posture from full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Matsui is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Okano has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matsui is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matsui goes for a takedown attempt but Okano pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Matsui cracks Okano with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Matsui lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Matsui misses with a punch to the body.
Okano tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Matsui lands with a right to the head.
Matsui fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Okano lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Okano pushes off an throws an elbow but Matsui leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Okano swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Okano takes the fight into the clinch.
Matsui lands with a left to the head.
Matsui lands a nice shot to the body.

Okano's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Matsui prevents a body shot from Okano.
Matsui lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Okano landing knees to the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Matsui drags the fight down to the ground.

Matsui has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Okano is posturing up here but Matsui has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Okano tries to roll out but it's too tight and Okano has to tap! Slick submission there by Matsui!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hachiro Matsui!
Hachiro Matsui seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
