PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Duggan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duggan comes to the cage accompanied by Pantera -Slaughtered. Patterson has chosen "I'm Too Sexy" as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Duggan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pete Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Patterson.
Patterson misses with a wild body shot.
Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Duggan swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Patterson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Patterson shoots in for a double leg but Duggan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Duggan looks to land a right hand but Patterson moved out of range.
Duggan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patterson manages to avoid it.
Duggan throws the left hand but Patterson avoids the punch easily.
Patterson wants to clinch up but Duggan keeps it at a distance.
Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch but Duggan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Duggan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Patterson.
Patterson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Duggan as he avoids it easily.
Jim Duggan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pete Patterson.
Duggan throws a body punch but Patterson moves out of range.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Duggan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Duggan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Patterson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Duggan.

Duggan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Patterson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Duggan defends it well.

and Duggan makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Duggan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Patterson moves away.

Duggan is looking to wear down Patterson with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Patterson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Duggan connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Patterson scrambles back to his feet.

Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Duggan swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jim Duggan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Duggan throws out a loose jab but Patterson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Duggan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Patterson.
Patterson connects with an inside leg kick.
Patterson moves away from the strike by Duggan.
Duggan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Patterson has taken the fight to the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Duggan's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Patterson fails to pull guard.
Duggan is trying to break free.

Duggan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Patterson moves in looking to clinch but Duggan pushes him off.
Duggan throws a body punch but Patterson moves out of range.

Patterson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Duggan.

Patterson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Duggan quickly recovers to half guard.
Patterson is keen to just control but Duggan is a slippery customer.

Duggan is trying to maintain the position but Patterson is very close to passing his half guard.

Patterson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Duggan is looking to control Patterson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Duggan avoid being mounted?
Patterson is trying to control the action in half guard but Duggan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's time! Duggan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Duggan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Patterson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Duggan.

Patterson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Duggan throws a hook but Patterson avoids it easily.

Patterson tries to kick Duggan off but Duggan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Duggan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Patterson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Duggan.

Duggan is working for a kimura but Patterson is defending it quite comfortably.

Duggan is just content to waste time from the top position. Patterson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jim Duggan will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Pete Patterson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Duggan throws a shot from downtown. Patterson moves away and avoids it.
Duggan fails to land with a series of punches.
Duggan just misses with a punch to the body.
Duggan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patterson manages to avoid it.
Duggan swats away the attempt to clinch by Patterson.

Patterson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Duggan circles away quickly and effectively.

Patterson rushes Duggan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Duggan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Patterson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Duggan to the mat. Duggan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Patterson wants to stand but Duggan is controlling his posture from full guard.
Duggan keeping moving, preventing Patterson from controlling successfully.
Patterson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Patterson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Patterson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duggan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Duggan has his foot on Patterson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patterson works his way back into a safe position though.

Patterson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Duggan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Patterson has managed to get both his arms back between Duggan's legs - danger averted.

Patterson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Duggan, up you get!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Patterson throws some wild stikes that Duggan manages to avoid easily.
Pete Patterson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Duggan is trying desperately to improve position.
Duggan regains half guard.

Duggan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Duggan gets full guard.
Duggan has a closed guard, preventing Patterson from standing up.
Patterson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Duggan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Duggan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Patterson looking to sit in guard and control but Duggan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Patterson wants to control but Duggan passes easily into half guard.
Duggan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Duggan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Duggan is looking for a kimura but Patterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Duggan to get the leverage.
Patterson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Duggan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Duggan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Patterson is looking to reverse the position.

I would just about give that final round to Pete Patterson.
Well Patterson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
