PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Schindler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Payet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Kurt Schindler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonathan Payet!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Ackerman and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payet moves into the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Schindler.

Schindler trying to stall but Payet improves his position.
Schindler goes for a takedown attempt but Payet pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Schindler counters with a slapping leg kick.
Payet closes the distance but Schindler moves to the side
and Schindler counters with a low kick, right behind Payet 's knee.

Payet connects with a right hand. Schindler shakes it off.
Schindler throws a low kick but it's checked well by Payet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Schindler is defended easily by Payet.

Payet tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Schindler paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Payet moves in looking to clinch but Schindler pushes him off.
A clash of legs there as Payet blocks the low kick.
Payet has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Schindler.
Payet throws a leg kick but Schindler checks it.

Schindler tries to keep at a distance but Payet has taken the fight into the clinch.
Payet misses with a hook to the ribs.
Payet misses with a punch to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Schindler is working for takedown but Payet is calmly controlling the position for now.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Payet.

Payet must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Payet wants to control from the top but Schindler keeps moving.
Schindler wants to sweep but no luck.
Payet looking to pass the guard.
Payet trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Schindler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Payet's guard.

That's time! Schindler's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Schindler decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Schindler connects with a nice short shot to Payet's temple.
Payet is looking to improve his position.
Payet regains full guard. Nicely done.
Schindler is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Schindler is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schindler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Schindler cracks Payet with an elbow. That is naaassty.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Payet can do anything to dispel that myth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Schindler is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Payet looks calm but he's in trouble here. Schindler gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Payet is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Schindler lets go of the hold and Payet can pop his arm back in it's socket.
