Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nikola Kolev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barack Obama! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kolev is looking to clinch but Obama is avoiding it.
Obama cracks Kolev with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
It looks like Nikola Kolev has been cut. Kolev throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Obama dodges the punch combination from Kolev.
Kolev tries to clinch up. Kolev misses with a few strikes there.
Kolev takes a shot right to the bread basket. Obama missing with a left hand there. Kolev was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. The fight stays on the outside here - Kolev looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Nikola Kolev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Obama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kolev did well to prevent Obama getting side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Obama has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Obama punishing his opponent with strikes. Obama jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kolev manages to avoid the submission attempt. Obama looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Obama has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obama thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Kolev regains half guard, as Obama was trying to land strikes. Obama is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kolev is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Barack Obama! A relieved looking Barack Obama thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
