Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yukii Ogata! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson stuffs the takedown. Ogata with a poor takedown enabling Johnson to counter with a crisp jab. Johnson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ogata misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. David Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yukii Ogata. Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Johnson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Ogata shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Ogata fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Johnson scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Ogata looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Johnson lands a two punch combo.
Ogata looks gassed! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Johnson misses with a series of wild punches.
Johnson looks to land a combination. Ogata sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Johnson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Ogata avoids it well. Ogata looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Ogata persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing. Johnson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ogata eats them both and turns towards Johnson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. David Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson throws a combination. Ogata tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Johnson scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Ogata fails with a takedown attempt. Johnson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Johnson duly obliges.
Ogata is rocked! Johnson lets his hands go wild with a nice combination. Left! Right! Uppercut! Spinning backfist! Ogata goes down and covers up as Johnson starts wailing on him! The ref watches the action closely before stepping in and putting a stop to the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Johnson!
