PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Gibson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny English (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Johnny English was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Gibson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny English!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibson closes the distance and clinches up with English, looking for a takedown. Gibson pushes English against the cage but English circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No joy there for Gibson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gibson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gibson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Gibson fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Gibson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
English throws a head kick but Gibson moves out of range.
Gibson swinging wilding here.
English misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and English counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gibson throws a shot from downtown. English moves away and avoids it.
English throws a right hand that Gibson ducks under and follows up with a left that Gibson also avoids with ease.
David Gibson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gibson shoots and misses
and English counters with a good low kick that Gibson was not able to check.
English feints and then cracks Gibson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gibson down.
Gibson shoots in looking for a takedown. English tries to sprawl out of it but Gibson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. English manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gibson is breathing heavily.
English swats away the attempt to clinch by Gibson.

Gibson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

English has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gibson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from English! Gibson is out on his feet! English rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Gibson is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Gibson is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johnny English!
