PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Junior Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johns comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome to the jungle. Reyes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Black and Yellow - Wiz Khalifa. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Junior Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jamie Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johns misses with a wild body shot.
Reyes throws the left hand but Johns avoids the punch easily.
Reyes throws a quick inside leg kick.
Johns throws a leg kick that misses.
Johns throws a leg kick that is checked
enabling Reyes to counter with a crisp jab.
Reyes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Reyes lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Johns feints and as Reyes raises his hands in defense, Johns changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Johns stopping the sweep attempt from Reyes.
Johns controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Johns lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Reyes looking for a sweep. Not yet Reyes, not yet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johns trying to control but Reyes is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johns in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Johns working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Johns loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johns postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Reyes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Johns, into his guard.

Johns is looking for a triangle but Reyes pushes his legs off easily.
Reyes pushing down on Johns's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Johns is trying to control but can't.
Johns is looking for a sweep. Reyes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johns is trying to maintain the position but Reyes is very close to passing his half guard.
Johns is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Reyes is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Johns tries to roll over but Reyes keeps him under control.
Reyes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Johns is not content to let Reyes control the position.
Johns trying to control here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Johns wants to land a leg kick but Reyes is out of range.
Jamie Reyes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Johns swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A nice leg kick lands there from Reyes.
Reyes takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Johns throws a leg kick that misses.
Junior Johns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johns with a lazy takedown attempt
and Reyes counters with a body kick.
Reyes throws a body kick that misses.
Johns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reyes swivels and escapes.
Reyes connects with the punch.
Johns misses with a leg kick
and Reyes counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Johns is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Reyes pushes Johns away with a front kick.
An inside leg kick from Johns misses.
Johns swings for the body but Reyes moves out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reyes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Johns.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reyes connects with a body shot.
Johns throws a chopping leg kick but Reyes manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Johns sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Reyes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Johns tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Reyes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johns moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Reyes feints and then cracks Johns's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Johns down.
Johns throws a leg kick but Reyes sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Reyes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Johns tries to work over Reyes's front leg with a kick but Reyes checks it.
Johns tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reyes was well out of range. Poor timing from Johns.
Johns takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reyes moves out of range of the leg kick from Johns.
A low kick from Johns is predictable there
and Reyes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Reyes fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Reyes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jamie Reyes will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Reyes lands with a straight right. Johns didn't see that one coming.
Johns gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Reyes.
Johns cracks the inside of Reyes's front leg.
Johns throws a leg kick but Reyes sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Johns looks to score with a jab to the body but Reyes is just out of range.
Johns does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Reyes connects with a solid leg kick.
Reyes tries to move into range but Johns moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Reyes lands with a nice body punch.
Reyes fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Johns tries to work over Reyes's front leg with a kick but Reyes checks it.
Nice shot lands for Johns.
A nice inside leg kick there by Reyes. That's going to slow Johns down.
Both fighters circling a little - Reyes finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reyes lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
A big left from Johns misses.

Reyes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Johns was well out of range. Poor timing from Reyes.
Johns is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Reyes checks a leg kick nicely.
Reyes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Reyes checks a leg kick.
Johns misses with a leg kick.
Reyes connects with a solid leg kick.
Johns walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Reyes looks for the body kick but Johns saw that one coming.
Reyes sizes up Johns with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Reyes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johns.
Reyes misses with a jab to the body

and Johns counters with a shoot takedown. Reyes fights it but they end up in guard.
Johns is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Johns won't allow Reyes to sweep him here.

Reyes pushes a forearm under Johns's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Johns is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jamie Reyes!
Our winner, Jamie Reyes, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
