PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Sailo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angus Grundi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bruno Sailo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Angus Grundi!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sailo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Grundi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Grundi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sailo dives on top into guard.

Grundi throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Sailo gets to his feet - Grundi follows without any prompting.
Sailo has a takedown stuffed.
Sailo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sailo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruno Sailo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Grundi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sailo did well to prevent Grundi getting side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sailo tries to kick Grundi off but Grundi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Grundi is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Grundi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sailo is just riding it out for now. Grundi eventually gives up the hold.
Grundi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sailo is looking to control Grundi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sailo avoid being mounted?
Grundi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Grundi working over Sailo with some ground and pound. Sailo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Sailo regains full guard. Nicely done.
Grundi postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Grundi drops back looking for a leg! Sailo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sailo manages to kick Grundi off! Grundi jumps back into Sailo's guard.
Grundi with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Grundi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sailo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Grundi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Grundi connects with a couple of short punches.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Sailo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Grundi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sailo is breathing heavily.

Sailo is looking for a triangle but Grundi pushes his legs off easily.

Grundi postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sailo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Grundi, into his guard.
Grundi has his hands on Sailo's head, controlling the position.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Angus Grundi.

Grundi gets a takedown into half guard.
Sailo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Grundi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Grundi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Sailo wants to control but Grundi is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sailo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sailo.

Grundi content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Sailo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Grundi stands and throws Sailo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Grundi lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Grundi lands a few punches from side control.


Sailo is rocked!
Sailo throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Grundi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sailo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Grundi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grundi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angus Grundi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sailo is defending against the submission attempts here by Grundi.

Grundi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sailo defends it well.

Grundi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sailo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Grundi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Grundi drops an elbow to the side of Sailo's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sailo tries to get to full guard but Grundi has control of the leg.
Grundi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Grundi seems to be looking for submissions.
Sailo is looking for a sweep. Grundi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sailo actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oh Sailo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Grundi lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Sailo quite badly. Sailo pulls Grundi in close trying to recover. Grundi postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Sailo on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Sailo doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Angus Grundi!
