Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alvaro Ibanez Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Adams! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Adams gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Santos to score an easy takedown into full guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Santos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Adams is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Santos, into his guard. Santos keeping moving, preventing Adams from controlling successfully. Adams is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Adams engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Santos is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Adams avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Adams keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Santos got a little sloppy there for a moment and Adams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Santos has managed to get both his arms back between Adams's legs - danger averted. Adams is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Adams pulls Santos in close to his closed guard and prevents Santos from doing any damage or advancing position. Adams manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Santos can't escape the position.
Adams looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Adams looking to isolate an arm here. Santos doesn't see it coming and as Adams extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Adams!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mark Adams! A very excited looking Mark Adams rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
