Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Ekwall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ekwall has chosen Linkin Park--One Step Closer as his entrance music. Wes Ekwall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Kenji Watanabe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wes Ekwall! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watanabe keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Ekwall dives in and grabs Watanabe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Watanabe pushes down on Ekwall's head and hops out. Ekwall on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Ekwall takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Watanabe connects with a right hand. Ekwall shakes it off. Ekwall on the wrong end of a nice hook. Ekwall tries for a takedown but Watanabe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Ekwall is looking to clinch but Watanabe is avoiding it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Watanabe. Ekwall avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Watanabe looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Ekwall misses with a left hand and Watanabe counters with a left and a right that stings Ekwall. This has been an exciting period of action! Ekwall tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Watanabe manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Watanabe lands a glancing blow to the side of Ekwall's head.
Ekwall is rocked! Watanabe moves into the clinch. Ekwall is still on wobbly legs! Can Watanabe finish him?
That's one minute gone in the round. Ekwall fails to pull guard.
Ekwall seems to have recovered his senses. Kenji Watanabe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wes Ekwall. Watanabe gets through Ekwall's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Ekwall takes a shot to the head. The referee calls for Watanabe to work.
Watanabe lands with a short head shot on the inside. Ekwall tries a knee to the head but Watanabe blocks it.
Ekwall stalling in the clinch but Watanabe improves position. Ekwall can't get the takedown.
Ekwall is trying to pull guard but Watanabe has him pressed against the cage. Still in the clinch, Watanabe scores with a nice short uppercut. Watanabe stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Watanabe throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Ekwalls head. A short right from Watanabe. Watanabe lands a left hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice right hand lands inside from Watanabe. Watanabe lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Watanabe with a knee to the head.
Watanabe swings wildly with an uppercut but Ekwall uses good head movement to avoid it. Watanabe lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ekwall goes for a takedown in the clinch but Watanabe prevents it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Watanabe lands a right hand. Watanabe lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Watanabe lands a body shot in the clinch.

Ekwall has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Watanabe after a bit of a struggle. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Ekwall looking for a takedown. A knee to the head by Watanabe.
Ekwall looks gassed! Watanabe content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Ekwall closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ekwall lands in his opponent's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Ekwall trying to control the position from guard on top but Watanabe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Watanabe is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Ekwall frees his head nicely. Oh but Watanabe has switched to an armbar! Ekwall is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
