Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tug Boat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Born! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boat stuffs the takedown. Boat misses with the combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Boat looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Born circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tug Boat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Boat rushes Born and presses him up against the cage. Born wants to break the clinch but can't.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Boat as Born tries to tie him up. Boat pulls Born into guard.
Born trying to control but Boat is working from the bottom. Boat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boat seems keen to control Born's posture.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Born hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. The fight stays on the outside here - Boat looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Boat tries to clinch up but Born circles away and keeps his distance. Boat tries to clinch there but Born circles away.
Boat darts in and clinches Born up against the cage. Boat pulls guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Born trying to control but Boat is working from the bottom. Born pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boat is keeping the position for now. Born trying to control the position from guard on top but Boat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Born wants to stand and escape but instead Boat has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Boat stands and steps away. Born gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Born looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Born looks gassed! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Born dodges the ground and pound from Boat. Born is trying to control Boat's posture but Boat avoids it. The referee asks Boat politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Boat prefers to stall for the moment though. Born parries the strikes from Boat easily there. Boat is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Born to escape.
Born takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Born tries to bench press Boat off him but Boat keeps the position. Boat throwing strikes but missing, from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boat scoring with punches and elbows. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Boat grinds an elbow into Born's temple. Boat is looking to take a break and control but Born is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Born takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Check out the look on Boat's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Boat cracks Born with an elbow. That is naaassty. Boat landing a few strikes. Boat trying to control the position but Born is working away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Boat thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Born wants to control but Boat postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tug Boat dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Born keeps the fight on the outside. Born looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Boat is fending him off so far but Born persists. Nope, Boat circles away and we're back to standing. Born circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boat tries to clinch up but Born circles away and keeps his distance. Born avoids the head kick by Boat.
Born just misses with a punch to the body.
Boat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Born scores a takedown into full mount! Born prevents Boat from getting the reversal. Born is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boat tries to hold on but Born pushes him away. Tug Boat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Born wants to control the pace but Boat is squirming around nicely. Boat tries to hold on but Born postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boat regains half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Born is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Boat tries to hold on but Born postures up. Born trying to control but he's not successful this time. Boat tries to reverse the position but Born maintains control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boat is working hard here to advance position. Born get's back to his feet. Born misses with a low kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Born misses with a takedown attempt - Boat sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Boat gets the takedown into side control. Boat passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Born! Boat fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Boat lands a nice shot to the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Boat cracks Born with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
It looks like Mike Born has been cut. Boat with shots to the head and body - Born looks very uncomfortable down there. Boat in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Boat working the ground and pound effectively.
Born is rocked! Boat postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Born badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Boat around the waist but Boat pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Boat is the winner by TKO! Boat jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tug Boat!
