Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Evander Mackenzie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dee Jay! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mackenzie looks to clinch and Jay holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Jay successfully pulls guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Jay has his feet on Mackenzie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Mackenzie tries to clinch but Jay moves away and Jay counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Mackenzie is trying to stall.

Jay ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jay no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jay holds on and takes a little breather. Mackenzie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jay on the ground. Jay trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Mackenzie is fighting to break Jay's control of his arms but Jay is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Mackenzie wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dee Jay was stalling too much, according to the referee. Mackenzie tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Jay counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Mackenzie stalling in the clinch but Jay improves position. Mackenzie can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight. Jay pulls guard. Jay controlling Mackenzie's posture. Mackenzie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Mackenzie looking to sit in guard and control but Jay gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Jay slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. It looks like Jay might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Jay slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Mackenzie seems a little lost for a moment, as Jay dominates the positioning. Mackenzie is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jay is one step ahead and moves to full mount! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mackenzie is in a horrible position here. Jay smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mackenzie reaches up to try and control the position but Jay seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Mackenzie rolls and tries to escape and now Jay has his back!
Jay is punishing Mackenzie with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jay is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Jay has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mackenzie tries to break free.
Jay has managed to slip his arm under Mackenzie's chin. This could be all over... yep, Mackenzie is tapping out! Submission win for Jay.
