PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marsellus Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marsellus Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Hall!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace avoids a kick to the body.
Hall fails with the takedown

and Wallace counters with a takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hall is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Hall is trying to control Wallace's posture but Wallace avoids it.

Hall throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Hall fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wallace avoids it really well and circles away.
Hall shoots for a takedown but Wallace saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Marsellus Wallace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Hall.

Hall stuffs the takedown.
Hall misses with a takedown attempt - Wallace sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hall pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Wallace back to the cage. Hall follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hall.
Wallace throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hall's waist but Hall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wallace off to one side.
Wallace shoots for a double leg takedown but Hall sprawls well. He's pushed Wallace's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hall shoots in and drives through. Wallace sprawls well.
Hall fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Wallace decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hall's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wallace passes Hall's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hall is looking to improve his position.

Wallace trying to control the action but Hall is working from the bottom.
Wallace wants to pass to mount but Hall is defending the position.
Wallace is trying to control the action in half guard but Hall is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Marsellus Wallace just wasn't active enough.

Hall closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Wallace's guard.
Hall trying to control but Wallace is working from the bottom.
Hall lands a couple of digs.
Wallace striking off his back but it's not causing Hall any problems.
Hall postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Wallace trying to keep a closed guard but Hall is proving a slippery customer.
Wallace looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hall wants to control from the top but Wallace keeps moving.

Wallace has his foot on Hall's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hall works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marsellus Wallace will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hall slaps away a takedown attempt from Wallace, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hall closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wallace quickly recovers to half guard.
Hall trying to control from half guard but Wallace is working away.
Hall throws a strike but Wallace avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Hall looking to pass the guard.
Hall is in close to Wallace's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wallace swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hall throws a big right hand that misses.
Hall throwing strikes but missing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hall loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hall throws a strike but Wallace rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Wallace trying to control the position from guard on top but Hall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hall wants to control the position but Wallace says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Wallace prevents Hall from standing back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hall can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hall is controlling Wallace's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Wallace is looking to advance position but Hall won't allow it.
Hall is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Wallace jumps into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wallace wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hall keeps working.

Wallace thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Marsellus Wallace overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hall is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Wallace is controlling him well.
Wallace is looking to take a break and control but Hall is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hall tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall is really stuck here.
Wallace wants to control but Hall is keeping busy.
Hall is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Hall covering up well and avoiding damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wallace doesn't have the hooks in and Hall manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Hall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Wallace counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Wallace.

Hall is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hall decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nice strikes from Hall there.
Hall not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wallace tries to kick Hall off but Hall keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wallace makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wallace.
Hall lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hall with a flurry of punches that miss.
Wallace preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hall working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Wallace's head.
Hall in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wallace. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wallace has his feet on Hall's thighs here. He's pushed Hall off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Hall screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marsellus Wallace!
