0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitaliy Veretin! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Veretin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Veretin trying to control the pace. Veretin wants to free his trapped foot but Martinez is holding on for dear life with his legs. Veretin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Veretin keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Martinez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Veretin pulls his head out easily. Veretin controlling the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Martinez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Veretin pulls his head out easily. Martinez is breathing heavily. Martinez tries to roll over but Veretin keeps him under control. Veretin wants to stand up but Martinez has a hold of him and won't allow it. Martinez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Veretin controlling the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Vitaliy Veretin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Veretin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Veretin is defending well against a takedown attempt. Veretin is defending well against a takedown attempt. That is not cool. It looks like Veretin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Martinez tries to bench press Veretin off him but Veretin keeps the position. Veretin working the body and head with strikes. Veretin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Martinez to his feet. Martinez walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Excellent takedown into side control there by Veretin. Martinez is looking for a sweep. Veretin is trying to get an arm triangle but Martinez is defending well. Veretin tries to score with some ground and pound. Martinez controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Martinez is looking for a sweep. Veretin staying calm. Martinez tries to buck Veretin off but Veretin is having none of it. Veretin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Martinez to his feet. Veretin looking for a takedown here - he's got it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Martinez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Veretin is aware though and is defending well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vitaliy Veretin dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
A head kick from Veretin lands but Martinez takes it in his stride. Veretin feints and as Martinez raises his hands in defense, Veretin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Martinez looking for subs off his back but Veretin has passed one foot through into half guard.
Martinez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Veretin pulls his head out easily. Veretin moves into full mount! Martinez won't be happy about that! Veretin controlling the pace for now. Veretin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martinez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Veretin throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Veretin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Martinez is trying to escape the mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Veretin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Martinez looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Martinez is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Veretin has the hooks in. Martinez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Martinez is working hard here to advance position. Veretin keeps control of the position easily here as Martinez tries to buck him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Veretin misses with punches from the back. Veretin biding his time, controlling Martinez. I really don't envy Martinez right now.

What can Martinez do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Veretin.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Veretin working for the choke. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A bit of a pause in the action here. Veretin controlling the positon. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vitaliy Veretin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Veretin throws a combination. Martinez tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Excellent takedown into side control there by Martinez. Veretin wants to get back to his feet. Veretin controls the position for a moment. Veretin throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Vitaliy Veretin has got the better of the ground game so far. Veretin gets back to half guard. Veretin is looking to improve his position.

He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Veretin works his way back into a safe position though. Veretin pushes down on Martinez's leg and manages to get into half guard. And that's the end of the fight! Vitaliy Veretin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Veretin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
