Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Helson Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trey Smith Jr! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gracie.
Smith Jr feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Smith Jr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Smith Jr is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith Jr! Smith Jr is looking to get to half guard. Smith Jr holds on for dear life, controlling Gracie's posture momentarily. Gracie unloads with some shots from mount but Smith Jr bucks and avoids them well.
Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smith Jr to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith Jr shrugs it off. Smith Jr tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith Jr tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control. Smith Jr is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Smith Jr is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Gracie looking to isolate an arm here. Smith Jr doesn't see it coming and as Gracie extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Gracie!
