PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tyr Uzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Duddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duddy has chosen Dropkick Murphys - 'Loyal to No One' as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tyr Uzi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Duddy!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uzi shoots in and drives through. Duddy sprawls well.
Tyr Uzi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duddy getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Uzi is looking to clinch but Duddy is avoiding it.
Duddy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Duddy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Uzi.
Uzi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Uzi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Duddy defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyr Uzi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Uzi scores with a hook to the body. Duddy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Uzi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Uzi wants to clinch
and Duddy counters with a right hand to the body.
Duddy lands a glancing blow to the side of Uzi's head.
Uzi darts in trying to clinch
and Duddy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A head kick misses from Duddy.

Uzi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Uzi's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duddy has his foot on Uzi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Uzi works his way back into a safe position though.
Uzi wants to control from the top but Duddy keeps moving.

Uzi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Duddy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Uzi has managed to get both his arms back between Duddy's legs - danger averted.
Uzi won't allow Duddy to sweep him here.
Uzi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Duddy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Uzi is aware though and is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Uzi trying to control the position from guard on top but Duddy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Duddy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Uzi wants to control from the top but Duddy keeps moving.
Duddy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Duddy has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Uzi doesn't defend quickly enough and Duddy has managed to lock this one up! Can Uzi escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Duddy on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). John Duddy!
John Duddy decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
