Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between How Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dickson Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yamada comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Despised Icon MVP kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, How Long! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dickson Yamada! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Long rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yamada moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Yamada waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Long. Yamada moves into the clinch. Long has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Yamada regains guard immediately. Long stands up over Yamada, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Long postures up.
Yamada working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Long. Yamada pulls Long in close to his closed guard and prevents Long from doing any damage or advancing position. Long has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Yamada preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Yamada is looking for a triangle but Long pushes his legs off easily.
Long passes Yamada's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Long thows a huge punch but Yamada dodges it nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Long trying to control the action but Yamada is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yamada is looking to improve his position.
Long lands with a punch from half guard. Long is taking a breather. Yamada says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Long throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Long is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Long working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Long slips a nice elbow through Yamada's hands, connecting with Yamada's forehead. Yamada tries to get to full guard but Long has control of the leg. Long is controlling the pace.
Yamada has hold of Long's hands but Long slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Long throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Long working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Long sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Yamada defending well though. Yamada looking for submissions off his back. Long is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Yamada is staying active underneath Long, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Long lands strikes from half guard. Yamada is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Long wants to work for an arm triangle but Yamada is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yamada moves into full guard.
Long drops back, looking for a kneebar! Yamada looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Yamada looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Yamada! Yamada tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Yamada wants to control but Long is keeping him busy. Yamada stands up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yamada clinches. Long misses with a body punch.
Yamada breaks the clinch.
Yamada misses with a lunging right hand
and Long counters with a left to the body. Long slips under a jab. Yamada clinches up against the cage. Long softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Long manages to break the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Long throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Yamada stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Yamada gets a clinch. Long tries for a takedown. No joy.
Long lands a shoulder strike. Yamada is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Long is defending well for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
How Long dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Danga de danga de dang - Yamada scores with a four punch combination! Long slips under a jab from Yamada. Yamada throws a shot from downtown. Long moves away and avoids it. Yamada instigates a clinch. Yamada looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Yamada wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Long has him pressed against the cage. Yamada missing with knees to the body.
A short right from Long on the inside. Yamada wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Yamada is trying to break the clinch but Long is controlling him. Long is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Yamada is trying to push Long away but Long has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Long prevents Yamada from breaking the clinch. Yamada is trying to break the clinch but Long has him pressed against the cage. Long gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Yamada is trying to control but can't.
Long prevents Yamada from improving his position. Long looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yamada tries to get to full guard but Long has control of the leg. Long keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Long wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yamada keeps working. How Long overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The ref stands the fighters back up because How Long just wasn't active enough. Yamada pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yamada gets a clinch. Long pushes Yamada back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Yamada wants to break free but Long has control.
Yamada misses with a knee to the head. Yamada has a couple of punches blocked by Long.
Long escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yamada waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Long.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yamada swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Long shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Yamada eats them both and turns towards Long to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Yamada swats away the attempt to clinch by Long. Yamada throws a sloppy head kick and Long moves out of range easily. Long misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Yamada takes the fight into the clinch. Long breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Long works Yamada's body with a nice hook. Long is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yamada sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for How Long. That's going to take a lot out of him. Yamada clinches with his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Long blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Long goes for a takedown in the clinch but Yamada prevents it.
Yamada breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yamada clinches up against the cage. Long has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Yamada after a bit of a struggle. Yamada's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Yamada lands a damaging elbow.
It looks like How Long has been cut. A shot in the inside from Long. A right hand to the body from Long.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Long. Long jumps guard.
Long looking to control.
Yamada trying to control the position from guard on top but Long is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Yamada working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Long pulls Yamada in to control the position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Long keeping moving, preventing Yamada from controlling successfully. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Long closes the distance but Yamada moves to the side and Yamada counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Yamada fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Long, pushing him back against the cage. Yamada escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Long clinches up with Yamada and pushes him back against the cage. Long turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Long manages to end up in side control. Yamada is not content to let Long control the position. Long is trying to get an arm triangle but Yamada is defending well. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Long wants to control but Yamada is keeping him busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that How Long will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on How Long's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Yamada turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Long has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Yamada. Yamada clinches with his opponent.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Long. Yamada wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Yamada pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Yamada closes the distance and clinches. Yamada wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Long is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Yamada is defending well. Long is working for takedown but Yamada is calmly controlling the position for now. Long jumps guard and drags Yamada to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Long keeping moving, preventing Yamada from controlling successfully. This has been an exciting period of action! Yamada stands up from Long's guard - Yamada perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yamada lands a jab-cross combination. Long closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Yamada breaks from the clinch.
Long avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Yamada clinches with his opponent.
Yamada lands a shot to the body. Long breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Yamada misses with the combination.
Yamada tries to bum rush Long with a series of wild strikes but Long uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Yamada swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Long counters with a single leg into guard. Yamada didn't expect that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Long stands up over Yamada, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Yamada working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Long doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Long manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Yamada takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Yamada is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yamada escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Long gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Long working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Yamada working a defensive guard here.
Long slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yamada has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Long can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Long trying to control but Yamada is working from the bottom. Long trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because How Long just wasn't active enough. Yamada clinches up with Long and pushes him back against the cage. Long works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Yamada gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Long.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for How Long. That's going to take a lot out of him. Yamada tries to circle away but Long has him pinned against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Long decides to pull guard. Yamada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Long swivels though and keeps the full guard. Long looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yamada is one step ahead there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dickson Yamada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! How Long is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Yamada being controlled here momentarily.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to How Long. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Long, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
