PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Clancy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bart Sampson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clancy comes to the cage accompanied by Fat Segal. Sampson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Metallica Seek and Destroy. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun Clancy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bart Sampson!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Clancy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sampson gets back to half guard.
Clancy is looking to take a break and control but Sampson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sampson tries to get to full guard but Clancy has control of the leg.
Clancy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sampson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sampson is staying active underneath Clancy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sampson is pressing down on Clancy's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Sampson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Clancy misses with the combination.
Clancy tries to bum rush Sampson with a series of wild strikes but Sampson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Sampson moves into range and clinches up with Clancy.

Clancy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Clancy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clancy drops back looking for a leg! Sampson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sampson manages to kick Clancy off! Clancy jumps back into Sampson's guard.
Clancy is breathing heavily.
Clancy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sampson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Clancy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Clancy passes Sampson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sampson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Sampson uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Sampson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Clancy circles away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shaun Clancy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bart Sampson.

Clancy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Clancy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Clancy stands up and beckons Sampson to his feet.

Sampson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Clancy is working away from the top position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sampson tries to get to full guard but Clancy has control of the leg.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

so Clancy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sampson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Clancy tries to hold on but Sampson pushes him away.

Clancy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sampson is on top in guard.

Clancy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sampson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sampson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Clancy is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Sampson has his hands clasped together but Clancy extends an breaks Sampson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Clancy.
