PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Katsuo Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vito Ferrari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takeda comes to the cage accompanied by Warrior Asylum by Disturbed. Vito Ferrari will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Katsuo Takeda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vito Ferrari!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takeda walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Takeda tries to keep at a distance but Ferrari has taken the fight into the clinch.
Takeda jumps guard but Ferrari stands there with Takeda around his waist. Takeda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ferrari stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Takeda takes a shot to the head.
Ferrari misses with a punch to the body.
Ferrari is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Ferrari scores with a nice hook to the head.


It looks like Katsuo Takeda has been cut.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A short left from Ferrari.
Ferrari is trying to maintain a safe position but Takeda gets an underhook and turns Ferrari into the cage.

Ferrari breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Takeda paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Ferrari fakes the leg kick and cracks Takeda in the body.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Takeda crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ferrari - the referee stops the clock and Takeda gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ferrari. Takeda manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ferrari takes a swing at Takeda's ribcage but misses.
Ferrari buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Ferrari ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Takeda moves away.
Vito Ferrari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for Ferrari. That snapped Takeda's head back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ferrari looks to land a right hand but Takeda moved out of range.
Takeda shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ferrari as he avoids it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ferrari connects with a body shot.
Ferrari is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ferrari, right into the meat.
Takeda takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Ferrari throws a poor cross that misses

and Takeda decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ferrari's guard.
Takeda trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ferrari tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ferrari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ferrari really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Takeda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Takeda tries to free his leg and advance position but Ferrari is retaining full guard.
Takeda throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ferrari works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Takeda throws a big right hand that misses.
Ferrari is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Takeda throwing strikes but missing.
Ferrari managing to control the position.
Takeda throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Takeda working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Takeda chips away with some ground and pound.
Ferrari seems keen to control Takeda's posture.
Takeda might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ferrari controls Takeda momentarily but Takeda frees himself.
Ferrari manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Takeda tries to reverse the position but Ferrari maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takeda tries to hold on but Ferrari postures up.
Takeda slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Ferrari wants to stand up but Takeda is controlling the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ferrari stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Takeda to get to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ferrari pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vito Ferrari dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Katsuo Takeda's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Ferrari lands a high kick!
Ferrari lands an overhand right.
Ferrari missing with a left hand there. Takeda was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Takeda shoots in and bounces Ferrari off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Takeda throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ferrari works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Takeda is in close to Ferrari's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Takeda slips nicely into half guard.
Takeda is looking to take a break and control but Ferrari is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Takeda drops an elbow to the side of Ferrari's head.
Takeda not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takeda looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Takeda thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Ferrari looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ferrari wants to improve his position but Takeda is controlling well.
Takeda is keen to just control but Ferrari is a slippery customer.

Takeda is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Takeda is thwarting Ferrari's attempts to control the position.
Ferrari wants to get back to his feet.
Takeda scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Takeda is working for a submission of some sort.
Ferrari is trying to get back to full guard.
Takeda scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Takeda is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Takeda thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ferrari's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Takeda thows a huge punch but Ferrari dodges it nicely.
Takeda throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ferrari has his hands clasped together around Takeda's back. He's all about the action.
Ferrari tries to get to full guard but Takeda has control of the leg.

Ferrari taking some punishment here, with Takeda in his half guard.
Takeda lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Takeda throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ferrari is not content to let Takeda control the position.
Takeda throws a strike but Ferrari avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Ferrari keeping full guard, as Takeda tries to pass.
Ferrari keeping moving, preventing Takeda from controlling successfully.
Ferrari bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Takeda's guard.

Takeda wants to sweep here but Ferrari controlling him for the moment.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ferrari gets to his feet - Takeda follows without any prompting.
Ferrari has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Takeda looking to score a takedown here. Ferrari is defending well but Takeda drives through and ends up in Ferrari's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Takeda takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Takeda misses with an uppercut. Ferrari saw that one coming.
Takeda moves out of range as Ferrari strikes.
Takeda takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Takeda ducks under a wild hook from Ferrari.
Ferrari fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Takeda.
Ferrari misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ferrari throws a head kick that misses.
Takeda avoids the head kick by Ferrari.
Ferrari feints and then cracks Takeda's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Takeda down.
Takeda fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ferrari avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ferrari throws an off balance right hand
and Takeda counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Takeda throws an overhand right that lands on Ferrari's shoulder, as Ferrari tries to avoid the shot.

Takeda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Takeda thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ferrari's head.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Takeda connects with a nice short shot to Ferrari's temple.
Ferrari wants to improve his position but Takeda is controlling well.
Takeda thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Takeda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ferrari keeps working.
Takeda throws a strike but Ferrari avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ferrari controls Takeda momentarily but Takeda frees himself.
Takeda is stalling in the full guard.

Takeda drops back looking for a leg! Ferrari is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferrari manages to kick Takeda off! Takeda jumps back into Ferrari's guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Takeda lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ferrari controls Takeda momentarily but Takeda frees himself.
Takeda postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ferrari is trying to keep Takeda in close.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Takeda trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ferrari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Takeda missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ferrari looking for a sweep. Not yet Ferrari, not yet.
Ferrari is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Takeda trying to control but Ferrari is working from the bottom.
Ferrari working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Takeda.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takeda postures up in Ferrari's guard and throws a big left but Ferrari blocks it.
Takeda trying to control but Ferrari is working from the bottom.
Takeda pushes down on Ferrari's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Takeda lands with a punch from half guard.
Takeda wants to free his trapped foot but Ferrari is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Takeda with the ground and pound but Ferrari uses the opportunity to regain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ferrari is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ferrari is trying to control the position but Takeda postures up.
Takeda content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Katsuo Takeda.
I think Takeda has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
