PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Bader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Orton's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, i hear voices. Randy Orton has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Randy Orton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Bader!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bader is defended easily by Orton.
Orton throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bader's waist but Bader gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Orton off to one side.
Orton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bader is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bader shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Orton defends it nicely.
Bader tries for a takedown but Orton circles away easily

and Orton counters with a shoot takedown. Bader fights it but they end up in guard.
Randy Orton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Bader.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Bader tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Orton manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
John Bader seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bader misses with a takedown attempt - Orton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bader shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Orton as he jumps to the side.

Bader fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Orton avoids it really well and circles away.
Orton misses with a takedown attempt - Bader sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Orton counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bader is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Orton is working Bader over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Orton postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Bader utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Orton gets to his feet. Bader looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Orton working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bader has his hands clasped together around Orton's back. He's all about the action.

Orton seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Orton tries to pass to full mount but Bader defends it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bader tries to clinch but Orton is having none of it.

Orton slips a nice elbow through Bader's hands, connecting with Bader's forehead.
Orton has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Randy Orton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Orton breaks from Bader's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Bader keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bader is breathing heavily.
Orton landing punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee warns Bader that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Bader tries to hold on but Orton pushes him away.
Orton breaks from Bader's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Orton is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Orton lands a nice shot to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bader is in all sorts of trouble here.
Orton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bader looks a forlorn figure.
Orton lands a big shot there that rocks Bader but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Orton is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bader can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Orton lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Bader is looking to get to half guard.

Orton thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Orton throws a strike there. Bader manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.

Bader regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Orton.

Orton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bader works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Orton throws an elbow that misses. Bader uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Orton's guard. Nice move by Bader!
Bader won't allow Orton to get back to his feet.

Orton uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Bader shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Orton tries to kick Bader off but Bader keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Bader controlling the action here.
Orton is trying to stand up here but Bader is controlling him well.
Bader takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Orton is staying active underneath Bader, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bader in particular looking to stall.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bader not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Orton looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Orton dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Bader bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Orton is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Bader has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Orton is looking to get back to his feet here but Bader is keeping cool and he's managed to take Orton's back.
Orton holding both Bader 's hands and preventing any damage.
Orton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bader is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Orton has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Bader has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Orton taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Bader doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). John Bader!
