Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jun Akiyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Fortaleza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jim Fortaleza was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jun Akiyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Fortaleza! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akiyama has his takedown stuffed and Fortaleza counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Fortaleza's corner calls for a 1-2. Fortaleza obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Akiyama shoots in and drives through. Fortaleza sprawls well. Fortaleza stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jun Akiyama. That's going to take a lot out of him. Akiyama tries for a takedown but Fortaleza circles away easily and Fortaleza counters with a right hand to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fortaleza keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Fortaleza misses with a few strikes there.
Akiyama needs to keep his hands up - Fortaleza had a free shot at his head there. Akiyama looks for a takedown but Fortaleza sprawls well. Jun Akiyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fortaleza lands a really nice looking cross but Akiyama seems unphased.
Akiyama moves forwards but Fortaleza connects with a nice, crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akiyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Akiyama doesn't succeed with the takedown letting Fortaleza counter with a right hand. Akiyama dives in and grabs Fortaleza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fortaleza pushes down on Akiyama's head and hops out. Fortaleza leaves Akiyama with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Fortaleza scores with a shot to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fortaleza moves out of range of the body kick from Akiyama.
A cross from Fortaleza lands. Akiyama shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Fortaleza counters with a stiff right hand. Fortaleza lands with a good body shot. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Akiyama.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Akiyama fails with the takedown and Fortaleza counters with a lovely straight right hand! Fortaleza lands a nice shot to the body.
Akiyama fails with the takedown and Fortaleza connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Fortaleza listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Fortaleza dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Akiyama has his takedown stuffed and Fortaleza counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Jun Akiyama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fortaleza fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Akiyama on the side of the head. Akiyama doesn't succeed with the takedown and Fortaleza counters with a left to the body. Fortaleza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fortaleza wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jun Akiyama. That's going to take a lot out of him. Akiyama doesn't succeed with the takedown letting Fortaleza counter with a right hand.

Akiyama dives in and grabs Fortaleza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fortaleza pushes down on Akiyama's head and hops out. Fortaleza tries a head kick but it misses.
Fortaleza lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Fortaleza.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akiyama shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fortaleza sprawls well. Fortaleza wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Akiyama gets slowly back to his feet. Akiyama fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fortaleza displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Akiyama. Akiyama tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fortaleza swivels and escapes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akiyama doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Fortaleza to counter with a crisp jab. Akiyama misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Fortaleza counters with a right hand to the body. Fortaleza works over Akiyama's head and body with a nice combination. Fortaleza fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fortaleza jabs at Akiyama's body. Fortaleza lands a body shot.
Akiyama tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fortaleza swivels and escapes. Fortaleza scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Akiyama wants to get back to full guard but Fortaleza has mounted him! Fortaleza stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Akiyama shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fortaleza defends it nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Fortaleza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!
Fortaleza throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Akiyama stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Akiyama fails with a takedown attempt. Jim Fortaleza seems to be getting the better of the standup. Akiyama shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Fortaleza counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Akiyama with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Fortaleza to score with a decent uppercut.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Fortaleza punishes Akiyama's body with a nice straight punch. Fortaleza swats away the attempt to clinch by Akiyama. Nice sprawl there from Fortaleza as Akiyama shoots in.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fortaleza scores with a crisp jab that stopped Akiyama in his tracks. Fortaleza cracks a nice hook into Akiyama's ribs. Fortaleza works Akiyama's body with a nice hook. Fortaleza lands a body shot.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Akiyama shoots for a double leg takedown but Fortaleza sprawls well. He's pushed Akiyama's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A shot to the liver by Fortaleza. Beautiful body shot. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Akiyama. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Fortaleza slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Akiyama tries for a takedown but Fortaleza circles away easily and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. A clash of legs there as Fortaleza blocks the low kick. Akiyama gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Fortaleza counters with a stiff right hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fortaleza lands a nice shot to the body.
Akiyama takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Akiyama drops his hands momentarily and Fortaleza takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Fortaleza lands a nice looking body shot.
Jim Fortaleza is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Fortaleza fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Jun Akiyama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Akiyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And that's the end of the fight! Jim Fortaleza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Fortaleza has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
