Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dong Chim! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Kooch! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kooch slips under a jab from Chim. Kooch moves away from the strike by Chim. Chim throws an overhand right that lands on Kooch's shoulder, as Kooch tries to avoid the shot. Chim throws a big shot that misses. Chim throws a hook to the side of Kooch's head but Kooch sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Chim is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Dong Chim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kooch shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Chim is trying to defend but Kooch finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Chim slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Chim keeping moving, preventing Kooch from controlling successfully. Chim has his hands on Kooch's head, controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kooch tries to free his leg and advance position but Chim is retaining full guard. Chim pulls Kooch in close to prevent any damage. Chim's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dong Chim wasn't doing enough on the ground. A telegraphed right hand from Chim misses the target.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chim dives in and scores a takedown into Kooch's guard. Kooch working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chim. Chim lands a couple of digs. Chim lands a couple of digs. Chim throwing strikes from guard but Kooch blocks nicely. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chim trying to control the position from guard on top but Kooch is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kooch has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Chim is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kooch. Chim scoring with punches and elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chim works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Chim has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chim is putting a hurting on Kooch here, landing some big shots from side control. Chim working the head and body with strikes. Kooch is looking to reverse the position. Chim scores with punches from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Chim creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Chim lands a few punches from side control.
Kooch is rocked! Kooch tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kooch is still in real trouble! Can Chim finish him? Chim lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Chim cracks Kooch with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Chim immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Kooch is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Chim!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dong Chim! Dong Chim is the new heavyweight champion! Dong Chim bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
