Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Riku Takahashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A jab-cross combination lands for Aldo and sends Takahashi crashing to the mat! Aldo follows him down to the mat - Takahashi regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Takahashi is rocked!


It looks like Riku Takahashi has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Aldo wants to control but Takahashi is keeping him busy.
Oh Takahashi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Takahashi is trying to stand back up but Aldo is controlling him
Aldo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Takahashi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Takahashi seems to have got his legs back now.
Aldo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Takahashi is not content to let Aldo control the position.
Takahashi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Takahashi tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jose Aldo was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Takahashi keeps the fight on the outside.
Aldo throws a right and a left that Takahashi avoids nicely.

Takahashi feints and as Aldo raises his hands in defense, Takahashi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Takahashi stays in close to Aldo's body and controls the position.
Aldo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Aldo trying to keep a closed guard but Takahashi is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Aldo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takahashi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Aldo throws a right and a left that Takahashi avoids nicely.
A head kick misses from Aldo.
Aldo throws a head kick but Takahashi moves out of range.

Aldo drops Takahashi with a right and a left! Aldo comes rushing in but Takahashi regains his composure and manages to keep Aldo in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Aldo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Takahashi is proving hard to escape from.
Takahashi wants to stand and escape but Aldo is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aldo trying to control but Takahashi is working from the bottom.

Takahashi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Takahashi keeping full guard, as Aldo tries to pass.
Takahashi wants to stand up but Aldo is controlling him.
Aldo wants to control from the top but Takahashi keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jose Aldo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Takahashi takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aldo throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Takahashi's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Aldo dives in looking to finish as Takahashi flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Aldo's strikes! Aldo is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Takahashi's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Takahashi was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Aldo!
Jose Aldo decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
