Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Neho Kipei! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kurt Orbiso! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kipei closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Horrible takedown by Kipei or perhaps it was just good defense by Orbiso which made him look bad. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Orbiso misses with a double jab.
Kipei is trying hard to land a takedown here. Orbiso sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Kipei fails with the takedown and Orbiso cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Neho Kipei. That's going to take a lot out of him. Orbiso misses with a wild combination.
Kipei has a takedown stuffed. Orbiso fails with an attempt to clinch.
Orbiso throws a good cross that connects.
Orbiso tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kipei paws at him with a jab and circles away. Kipei fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Orbiso scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Neho Kipei seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Orbiso with a body punch. A glancing blow. Orbiso misses with a few strikes there.
Orbiso looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Kipei fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Orbiso sprawls well initially but Kipei persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Kipei wants to control but Orbiso is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Orbiso tries to roll over but Kipei keeps him under control. Kipei thows a huge punch but Orbiso dodges it nicely.
Orbiso is not content to let Kipei control the position. Orbiso manages to get to full guard.

Kipei in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Orbiso keeping full guard, as Kipei tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Orbiso working a defensive guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kipei trying to control but Orbiso is working from the bottom. Kipei throws a big right hand that misses. Kipei throwing strikes but missing. Kipei throws a big elbow that misses. Orbiso wants to get back to his feet but Kipei is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Orbiso keeping moving, preventing Kipei from controlling successfully.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kipei. Orbiso cracks Kipei with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Orbiso misses with a double jab.
Kipei is trying hard to land a takedown here. Orbiso sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Kipei shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Orbiso fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kipei throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Orbiso's waist but Orbiso gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kipei off to one side. Orbiso tries to clinch but Kipei moves out of range. Kipei with a poor takedown and Orbiso counters with a lovely straight right hand! Kipei is breathing heavily. Kipei swats away the attempt to clinch by Orbiso. Kipei fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Orbiso misses with a few strikes there.
Kipei shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Orbiso sprawls well. Orbiso wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kipei gets slowly back to his feet. Orbiso feints a jab promting Kipei to slip. Orbiso then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kipei slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Orbiso has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kipei avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Orbiso. No joy for Kipei on that attempt. Kipei takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Kipei misses with a takedown attempt and Orbiso counters with a three punch combo that has Kipei backing up. Kipei nods at Orbiso to acknowledge the strikes.
Kipei is rocked! I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Orbiso has cracked Kipei with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Orbiso lands another huge swinging hook and Kipei tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Kipei, before Orbiso can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Kurt Orbiso! Our winner, Kurt Orbiso, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
