Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Totoy Mola! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Burton! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mola throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mola has Burton up against the ropes in a clinch.
Burton takes a shot to the head. Burton is trying to break the clinch but Mola is controlling him. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Mola as Burton tries to tie him up. Burton wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Burton has a couple of punches blocked by Mola.
Both fighters working to control the clinch. Burton gets underhooks to prevent Mola's takedown attempt.
Burton prevents a takedown attempt there.
Mola tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Totoy Mola. That's going to take a lot out of him. Burton managing to block the knees to the body from Mola.
Mola breaks the clinch.
Burton just misses with a punch to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mola.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burton tries to move into range but Mola moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Mola misses with a takedown attempt - Burton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Burton lands a nice hook to Mola's body. Mola takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Mola uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Burton.
Mola is looking to clinch but Burton is avoiding it.
Burton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mola decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Burton's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mola tries to free his leg and advance position but Burton is retaining full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burton can do anything to dispel that myth. Mola gets to his feet. Burton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Barry Burton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mola swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Burton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Burton wants it to stay on the feet. Mola is breathing heavily. Burton fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mola is trying hard to land a takedown here. Burton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Burton looks to score with a jab to the body but Mola is just out of range. No luck for Mola with that takedown attempt. Mola tries for a takedown but Burton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Mola on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Burton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Burton takes a swing at Mola's ribcage but misses. Burton lands with a cross.
It looks like Totoy Mola has been cut. Mola closes this distance looking for a takedown but Burton circles away. Sloppy strikes from Mola. Those never looked like landing. Mola takes a shot to the body in his stride.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burton cracks a nice hook into Mola's ribs. Burton scores with a sloppy right hand. Mola should have avoided that one. Burton throws a body punch but Mola moves out of range. Mola bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Nice cross by Burton. Mola has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mola there as he acknowledges the shot. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mola shoots in and drives through. Burton sprawls well. Burton misses with a looping left. Mola has a takedown stuffed. Mola shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Burton pinned against the ropes. Burton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Burton sends Mola crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Burton is motioning to the referee to let Mola up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Mola is rocked! Burton fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Burton works Mola's body with a nice hook. Burton with a hook. Oh Mola is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Mola takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Burton pounces like a tiger and cracks Mola with a vicious hook! Mola is down but not out! Burton follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Barry Burton!
