Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Coach! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Choke Liddell! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddell just misses with a punch to the body.
Liddell checks a leg kick. Coach throws a right hand that misses
and Liddell counters with a takedown into side control. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Liddell tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Liddell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coach keeps working. Coach is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Coach is trying to get back to full guard. Coach controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Coach regains full guard. Nicely done. Liddell wants to pass the guard but Coach is keeping the position. Coach lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Liddell! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Coach fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
That's one minute gone in the round. Coach thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Coach working away from the top, dropping strikes. Liddell tries to lock up and control but Coach gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Coach moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Liddell has worked his arm free - good work by Liddell!
Coach is looking to take a break and control but Liddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Coach is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Liddell is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Coach swings around for an armbar but Liddell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Coach's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Liddell wants to pass the guard but Coach is keeping the position. Coach utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Coach is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liddell is aware though and is defending well. This has been an exciting period of action! Liddell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Coach has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Liddell has managed to get both his arms back between Coach's legs - danger averted. Liddell trying to control but Coach is working from the bottom. Liddell is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Liddell is looking to advance position but Coach has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Coach raining down shots from the mount! Coach landing shots from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coach scoring with strikes but Liddell is staying in there. Liddell is in a horrible position here. Coach smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Coach has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Coach unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Liddell wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Coach celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
