Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jim Lomfor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Project Nine! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lomfor thows a left - swing and a miss! Nine rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lomfor moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sloppy strikes from Nine. Those never looked like landing. Nine avoids the head kick by Lomfor.
Lomfor clinches. Nine tries to pull guard but Lomfor holds him up against the cage and eventually Nine drops back down to his feet.
Lomfor lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Nine wants a takedown.
A knee to the head by Lomfor.
Come on Lomfor - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Nine is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lomfor to keep the fight standing. Jim Lomfor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Project Nine. Lomfor is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. That's one minute gone in the round. Nine is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lomfor pulls him back up using the underhooks. Lomfor has hold of one of Nine's legs. Nine is fighting the takedown attempt but Lomfor gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Nine is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Lomfor trying to control but Nine is working from the bottom. Lomfor has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Lomfor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nine on the ground. Lomfor postures up.
Lomfor loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Lomfor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nine swivels though and keeps the full guard. Nine is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Lomfor frees his head nicely. Oh but Nine has switched to an armbar! Lomfor is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
