PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bradley Nowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nowell has chosen Doin Time as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bradley Nowell!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Stone throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nowell tries to clinch there but Stone circles away.
Stone misses with a wild body shot.
Nowell blocks a head kick by Stone.

Stone closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nowell to the mat! Nowell manages to get full guard.
Stone wants to pass the guard but Nowell is keeping the position.
Nowell wants to stand but Stone is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stone in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nowell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Nowell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nowell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Stone has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Stone throws a strike but Nowell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Nowell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stone pulls Nowell in close to his closed guard and prevents Nowell from doing any damage or advancing position.
Stone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stone is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Nowell sees it coming and defends easily.

Nowell manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Nowell doesn't manage to clinch there - Stone circles away.

Nowell tries to land knees in the clinch but Stone avoids the damage to the body.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nowell postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Stone to stand up.
Stone missing with a left hand there. Nowell was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nowell tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stone throws a nice looking combination but Nowell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Stone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bradley Nowell will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Nowell rushes Stone and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Nowell misses with a knee to the head.
Nowell lands a nice knee to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nowell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Stone manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Nowell drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nowell moves into the clinch successfully.
Stone goes for a takedown attempt but Nowell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nowell moves in looking to clinch but Stone pushes him off.
Bradley Nowell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nowell tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Stone is able to avoid easily.

Stone changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nowell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Stone throws an elbow but Nowell slips to the side and avoids it well.
Nowell is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stone asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Stone misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Nowell is trying to get back to his feet.
Stone tries to score with some ground and pound. Nowell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Stone is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nowell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Nowell pushes Stone away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stone gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Nowell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stone is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nowell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Stone working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Sean Stone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Stone looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Nowell is avoiding damage well.
Nowell on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nowell is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Stone is controlling him well.
Nowell tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Sean Stone overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stone is looking for a choke. Nowell gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Nowell manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

Nowell stands up from Stone's guard - Nowell perhaps looking for a knockout.

Bradley Nowell is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
