Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jason Born!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Born.
Payne just misses with a punch to the body.
Born shoots in and drives through. Payne sprawls well.
Payne looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Born is fending him off so far but Payne persists. Nope, Born circles away and we're back to standing.

and Born counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Payne tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Payne wants to get back to his feet.
Payne is trying to maintain the position but Born is very close to passing his half guard.

Born working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Payne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Payne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Born fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Payne avoids it really well and circles away.

Payne throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Born was covering up waiting for the punch and Payne finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Payne stands up over Born, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Born keeping moving, preventing Payne from controlling successfully.
Born keeping full guard, as Payne tries to pass.

Payne drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Born dives on top into guard.
Born is breathing heavily.

Born sitting in guard here, content to control.

Payne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Born can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Payne has his hands on Born's head, controlling the position.
Payne throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Justin Payne has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Born lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Payne has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Payne and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Payne gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Born is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Payne pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Born is keeping the position for now.

Payne sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Born's guard.
Payne prevents Born from improving his position.
Payne slips a nice elbow through Born's hands, connecting with Born's forehead.
Payne is looking to stall here but Born recovers full guard.
Born avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Born being controlled here, momentarily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Payne keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Born's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Payne postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Born looks a forlorn figure.
Payne wants to control the pace but Born is squirming around nicely.
Justin Payne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Born takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
BOOM! Payne connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Born keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Payne scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Payne working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Payne lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


Born is rocked!
Payne lands a big shot to the head and Born winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
