1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alvarez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Centkiewicz. Alvarez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Centkiewicz. Alvarez gets the takedown into side control. Alvarez is looking to take a break and control but Centkiewicz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alvarez with the ground and pound but Centkiewicz regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Centkiewicz regains full guard. Nicely done. Alvarez trying to control but Centkiewicz is working from the bottom. Alvarez is looking to stand up but Centkiewicz won't let him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Centkiewicz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alvarez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Alvarez wants to pass the guard but Centkiewicz is keeping the position. Alvarez throwing strikes from guard but Centkiewicz blocks nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alvarez trying to control but Centkiewicz is working from the bottom. Alvarez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Alvarez stands up over Centkiewicz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Centkiewicz has a closed guard, preventing Alvarez from standing up. Centkiewicz can't keep his opponent in guard - Alvarez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarez trying to mount his opponent but Centkiewicz defends it. Alvarez trying to control from half guard but Centkiewicz is working away. Alvarez prevents Centkiewicz from improving his position. Alvarez with the ground and pound but Centkiewicz uses the opportunity to regain guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alvarez wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Centkiewicz's closed guard. He's half up but Centkiewicz has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Centkiewicz pivots and extends the arm, Alvarez falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Centkiewicz! Well done that man!
