These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Asher feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Asher looking to sit in guard and control but Kanayama gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Asher is striking but Kanayama is not phased and passes to half guard.
Asher throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Asher on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Asher tries to get out of the position.
Kanayama trying to control the action but Asher is working from the bottom.
Asher is looking for a sweep. Kanayama is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kanayama not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Asher fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kanayama sprawls well initially but Asher persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kanayama looks like he's trying to stand up.

Kanayama makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Kanayama is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Asher is looking to take a break and control but Kanayama is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Asher is looking to advance position but Kanayama won't allow it.
Kanayama wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Asher not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Asher lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Asher blocks the strikes from Kanayama.
Kanayama on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Kanayama kicks off Asher and gets to his feet.

Asher has closed the distance and engaged Kanayama in a clinch.

Asher gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Kanayama regains guard.
Asher won't allow Kanayama to get back to his feet.
Asher lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kanayama striking off his back but it's not causing Asher any problems.

Kanayama pushes Asher off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Asher has his takedown stuffed
and Kanayama counters with a leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Asher tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kanayama knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kanayama is controlling Asher's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Kanayama is staying active underneath Asher, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Asher landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Asher prevents Kanayama from improving his position.
Asher thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Kanayama to regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Asher has managed to clinch.

Asher has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kanayama clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Kanayama rolls, trying to escape but Asher keeps control of the position.
Kanayama is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
A lull in the action here.
Asher is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Kanayama up.
Kanayama takes a big shot to the side of the head.


Kanayama is rocked!
Asher scores with punches from the back.
Kanayama is still in real trouble! Can Asher finish him?
Asher has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Kanayama's body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Asher lands shots from the back.
Kanayama grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Kanayama is covering up but some of the strikes from Asher are getting through and doing damage.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Asher. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Asher is raining down hard shots and and Kanayama has had enough - he's tapped out due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Kfier Asher!
Kfier Asher retains his featherweight title!
