Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Guillards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Redd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redd has chosen BIG SHIT POPPIN TI as his entrance music. Erik Redd is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Erik Redd! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Redd shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Guillards sprawls well. Guillards wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Redd gets slowly back to his feet. Redd shoots in but no luck this time. Guillards lands with a right hand. Guillards misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Redd shoots in and drives through. Guillards sprawls well. Melvin Guillards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erik Redd. The fight moves into the clinch position. Redd breaks from the clinch.
Redd fails with a takedown attempt. Guillards works Redd's body with a nice hook. No joy there for Guillards, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Guillards drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Guillards swings around for an armbar but Redd sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Guillards's guard. Redd gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. This has been an exciting period of action! Redd shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Guillards but Guillards pushes him off and we're back to square one. Guillards stuffs the takedown attempt from Redd. Redd gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guillards stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Guillards wants it to stay on the feet. Redd looks gassed! Guillards comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Guillards throws a series of punches but Redd avoids them all with ease. Redd tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guillards sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Redd somewhat. Guillards misses with a series of wild punches.

Redd is trying to break the clinch but Guillards has him pressed against the cage. Redd is fighting off a takedown attempt but Guillards is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Redd to the mat. Redd regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guillards drops back, looking for a kneebar! Redd looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Redd looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Redd! You can see the frustration on Guillards's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Guillards is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Guillards looking for a sweep but Redd has passed into full mount! Oh no! Guillards is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Guillards tries to get back to half guard but can't. Redd is standing up, even though he is in mount. Guillards leaves Redd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guillards rushes Redd and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Guillards stalling against the cage.
Guillards tries a knee to the head but Redd blocks it.

Guillards throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Redd blocks it with crossed arms. The referee is keeping an eye on Redd - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Guillards keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Guillards gets a double leg takedown into Redd's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guillards wants to stand but Redd is controlling his posture from full guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Redd holds on and takes a little breather. Guillards drops back, looking for a kneebar! Redd looks panicked! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Guillards is trying to work for a sweep but Redd has mounted him! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Redd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Guillards avoids it really well and circles away. Melvin Guillards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Guillards bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Redd's head backwards. Guillards fails to land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Guillards shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Redd eats them both and turns towards Guillards to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Redd shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Guillards bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Redd's head. Guillards throws a right and a left that both miss. Guillards throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Guillards!
Redd shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Guillards as he jumps to the side. Guillards changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Redd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Guillards working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Redd misses with a strike from the bottom. Redd is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Guillards off and has taken his back!

Redd biding his time, controlling Guillards. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Redd working for a choke but Guillards is defending well. Guillards is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

That was a close second round but I would say that Melvin Guillards will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Redd is trying desperately to land a takedown but Guillards is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Redd. Guillards jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Horrible takedown by Redd or perhaps it was just good defense by Guillards which made him look bad.

Guillards is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Redd is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Redd has escaped and now he's on top! Redd passes Guillards's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Redd not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Redd controlling the action here. Guillards wants to get back to full guard but Redd has passed into side control. Redd has control of an arm but Guillards manages to advance to Redd's back! Redd turns into Guillards and is now in his guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Redd sitting in guard here, content to control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Guillards working a defensive guard but Redd passes into half guard.
Melvin Guillards is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Redd stands up from half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Melvin Guillards. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guillards, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
